Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
 
Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10a to 5p. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Quarterly Members Meeting
Please join us tonight, Wednesday, October 17, at Blue Ridge Electric Conference Room. Beginning at 5:15p, we will be updating everyone on what's going on with the Chamber and there will also be reports from a few Chamber members. Robin Rector, The Cake Diva, will be catering the event with tasty hors d'voeuvres and of course some sweet treats. She will also be giving some tips on holiday entertaining as well. Studio Tour This Weekend
Join local artists as they open their studios for the NC Mountain Arts Adventure studio tour. The tour is from Friday, October 19, until Sunday, October 21. Twelve artists will participate and will be open from 10a to 5p, all weekend. Get to know the artists and craftspeople, watch them at work, and shop in their unique studio and gallery settings. Maps and studio information are available in the Chamber of Commerce foyer (open 24/7) or you can visit the website for more information. 336-372-5473.
Old Time Mountain Music
Join the Alleghany Library for an evening of toe-tapping with Harrol Blevins and Willard Gayheart. The program begins at 7p, Thursday, October 18. For more information,

Music on the Deck
Harmony Hill Bed and Breakfast will be hosting music Friday and Saturday nights, 7-9p, for the rest of October. Pack a lawn chair and come enjoy local talent and beautiful fall views. McRitchie Winery and Ciderworks will be at Harmony Hill each Friday night to sell their wine.

Hillbilly Variety Show
The 2012 Hillbilly show will take place on Saturday, October 20, at 7p at the Sparta Auditorium. Hillbilly Wes will be hosting and tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children 6-12. Children under 6 get in free. 
Feeling Lucky? There is Gold in Sparta
Beginning Friday, October 12, the pot of gold will be hiding a in Chamber retail shop in Sparta. Look for the sign to identify a participating merchant and then be the first lucky shopper to find the pot of gold each week. Simply point out the location of the pot of gold to a store employee and receive a winner token. Tokens can be redeemed at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce for a $30 gift certificate to spend with Chamber merchants. This promotion is a partnership with the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Chamber of Commerce and will continue for ten weeks until December 14. Only ten tokens will be given out so be on the lookout for the pot of gold! 
Dialogue Matters Discussion Group

This month the group will be discussing the Life and Times of Ray Hicks by Lynn Salsi. Learn about how hard life was in teh last century. Everyone is invited to join them on Monday, October 22 from 11:15a-1:30p at the Blue Ridge Business Development Center. Republican's Hosting Debate Viewing Party
Ron and Diana Hubbard, co-chairs of the Republican Party Headquarters, invites the community to join them at the Headquarters, 18 S Main Street in Sparta on Monday, October 22 at 8p. There will be a large screen TV setup for easy viewing. Popcorn and beverages will be provided. Please bring a snack to share and a bag chair as there is limited seating. Set Your Mind for Success Workshop  
Dialogue Matters will be hosting a workshop on Tuesday, October 23, from 9:30a to 4:30p at the Alleghany Inn. Increase your motivation and success by learning about "growth mindset." 2012 Awards Banquet 
This year's banquet on November 2, beginning at 6:30p, will be honoring Food Lion, Rob Mangum, and the Solid Rock Food Closet at Olde Beau. There will be a live auction for items donated by artists of the community. Tickets are $35 and are selling fast, so stop by the Chamber before October 26 to purchase a ticket. Please plan to attend in support of the honorees. 336-372-5473

Wednesday, November 14, the Chamber will be hosting a calendaring meeting for 2013. We are working on getting events in the Sparta Magazine. Annual Halloween Trunk or Treat
Crouse Park will be the location of the Trunk or Treat again this year which will take place on October 31 from 5-7p. Everyone is invited to take part in this event. Whether you decorate your trunk, donate candy or bring your little ones, please plan to attend. There will be costume contests and music. Davhenco Inc. Donating for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Davhenco Inc. will conduct a mold inspection at your home or place of business and donate $50 of the fee to Susan G. Komen for a Cure.
