THOUGHT
FOR THE DAY

"Self-importance is our greatest enemy. Think about it--what weakens us is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of our fellowmen. Our self-importance requires that we spend most of our lives offended by someone." Carlos Castenada

(1925-1998)

Greetings!
PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Our 20th season has come to an end with the first ever sell-out Luncheon at which Tom Monaghan, the "Pizza Tiger", was our speaker.  Tom spoke about his truly exceptional life, rising from humble beginnings as an orphan to becoming a hard driving entrepreneur and living the American dream.  In his talk he eloquently elaborated on the five pillars that guided his life's philosophy and it was inspirational. Never forgetting his humble beginnings and being touched by the spirit of his deep catholic faith he is devoting the sunset of his life to serving humanity as a very generous philanthropist.

Our 20th season was an exceptional one with many highlights:  Outstanding Luncheon speakers, a wonderful Anniversary Cocktail Reception, the publication of our History Booklet  "The First Twenty Years", and wonderful social, cultural and nature programs enjoyed by all who participated in these many events.

We are looking forward to our "Third Decade" with great confidence and anticipation as we continue to build on the great foundation, which has been laid during our first twenty years.

Planning for our upcoming 2013/14  season is well in hand.  Our Luncheon Speaker Programs are complete, with ten exceptional speakers already committed, another first in our history, thanks to our Program Director and his committee.  Final touches are being put on our ten social and nature programs for next season, and our Cocktails and Conversation, Dine-Outs, Stammtisch, Book Club and Tuesday club have made our event calendar.  All of this is aimed at increasing your membership experience and we hope you will partake in as many events as possible.

I again want to thank those of you who responded to our Membership Survey.  The tabulated results can be reviewed on our website (see tip of the month below)  and your Board is addressing with action items several of the comments and suggestion you included in the survey.   We have formed a Luncheon committee to address issues relating to our luncheons with respect to menu selections,  food quality and service.   We have addressed shortcomings in the sound system and corrective action was taken.  While we may not satisfy all your comments and feedback in the short run, be assured we will continue to work on them during the upcoming season.

We are very close to reaching our maximum membership level of 200 members, after which we will establish a waiting list.  If you know someone who would enjoy an IMCA membership, please have him contact our Membership Director via our website's CONTACT US page.

Please remember, we are a Member-Managed Organization, and as such, we not only appreciate our members' willingness to serve in various positions but depend on it to ensure the seamless and smooth functioning of our club.  I hope we can continue to count on your support.  We are currently looking to fill several positions for the upcoming season.  Should you be interested please contact me for further details at  hgpfendt@gmail.com

I wish all of you a wonderful summer and safe travels, wherever your travels will take you.

Henry Pfendt

President
