Gaël De Maisonneuve
     The history and relationship of France and the U.S. is a long and friendly bond.  From the gift of the Statue of Liberty to the trials of WWI and WWII, the association has been one literally for the history books.  Join us for an exceptional presentation for a review and encapsulation of this long history, past, present and future with particular emphasis on France today and her role in the EU. 
     Born in 1967, Gaël de Maisonneuve is a graduate of the prestigious Paris' Institute of Political Studies known as Sciences Po Paris, an elite French school focusing on the full range of the social sciences. He is also a graduate of the ESSEC Business School (Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales), an academic
institution of excellence that has been training leaders since 1907.   
     G. de Maisonneuve began his professional stay abroad as a "coopérant", an alternative to military duty, in the Republic of Singapore within the service of Cultural affairs at the French Embassy.
     After three years in Paris, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to Asiatic issues, he was appointed Second Secretary at the French Embassy in Tokyo. In 2002 he served as advisor to the Ambassador of France in Sri Lanka.  In 2005 he returned to Paris where he first worked at the general political and security department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later joined the cabinet as an Advisor to Mr. Bernard Kouchne, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.  Meanwhile, he carried out numerous duties in different associations in Paris.  M. Maisonneuve was appointed to his current post on August 14 2009.
     He is married to Caroline de Maisonneuve and has three children who attend the French International Studies in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. Very open to other cultures, they travel together around the world.

IMCA MEMBER AND FGCU/RA LECTURER PRESENTING:
"THE MUZZLED MEDIA OF CHINA"
  
  
     Few among us know anything of China outside of what we hear and read in the press and on the internet. Less is known about the media of China and how it operates under an authoritarian régime.  It is not widely known that China spends more on internal controls than on national defense. How are the citizens of China dealing the massive growth of the internet whilst at the same time struggling under ever more stringent censorship and controls of personal expression?  
     This presentation will provide a detailed accounting of the media conditions and controls within present day China. A review of the the constitutional rights guaranteed to the Chinese people and how this is playing out with new leaders just installed -- the Standing Committee Party Elders.  All forms of media will be covered including the gigantic growth of the internet, social networks, expansion of newspapers, and the cost of these controls to the government and people of China.  
     Lyle is a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana Wesleyan University with degrees in Business Administration. He is a retired executive in senior management after 36 years with ArvinMeritor, Inc.  He lived in China for over five years and worked in China for over eight years. He was General Manager of China Operations, Manager of the Shanghai Regional Office, and former Director of Quality and Training Asia Pacific, stationed in Bangkok Thailand.  
    Lyle was and is a teacher and practitioner of over 50 subjects regarding lean manufacturing, mathematics, business management for the Asian market, and the cultures and histories of Asian counties. He has extensive Asian experiences from Korea to Australia to India and the Philippines. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving three years in Vietnam.  He is currently a lecturer with FGCU-Renaissance Academy, and for private groups on various topics related to China, Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, Japan, and the Philippines. He is also an author of several books on family genealogy and history. He and his wife, Akiko, reside in Naples.
