NEW SPEAKER ARRANGEMENTS

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our scheduled speaker, Mr. Jack Tymann had to cancel his speaking engagement.  Fortunately, we have arranged for an outstanding new speaker:

MS. MIMI CHAPIN GREGORY
FORMER PRESIDENT of the NAPLES COUNCIL on WORLD AFFAIRS
"AFGHANISTAN: A GRASS ROOTS OVERVIEW"

Mimi GregoryDuring the past year, Ms. Gregory

was part of a Leadership Delegation to Kabul, Afghanistan, at the invitation of Mr. Ryan C. Crocker, U.S. Ambassador to the country.  The objective was to observe the accomplishments of the U.S. involvement in the country during the past decade--without prejudice. The delegation met with over 200 influential Afghanis, General John Allen, and President Karzai.  The delegation prepared numerous reports on the results of that visit and she will be sharing those observations and conclusions with us.

Ms. Gregory has been actively involved in international affairs for the past twenty-five years. Her interest in foreign affairs was fostered by her opportunities to live abroad, her European ancestry, and her pursuit of languages and Slavic studies as her major in college.  She has been a member of "Leadership Missions" to Lebanon, Kuwait, Israel, Egypt, Taiwan, the Federal Republic of Germany, and Iraq.

She was an executive recruiter for the banking  industry, residing in Paris during the years 1978-80. Upon returning to the U.S., she continued to pursue her interest in the French language and culture within the Alliance Francaise.

Whilst living in Boston she worked with the Consul General of France to create a French-American Chamber of Commerce, and served as its Vice President for five years. Her contributions to the various French organizations were recognized in 1990 when she was decorated by the French Government as a "Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters."  Furthermore, in October 2011, she received the highly coveted award of  "Commander " in the National Order of Merit, by decree of President Nicolas Sarkozy of France.

Ms. Gregory has served on the board of Friends of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, the American Heart Association, is currently a "Goodwill Ambassador" for the Massachusetts General Hospital/Red Sox Foundation "Home Base Program" and, has served with various other civic organizations. As Vice President and Board member of the World Council of Boston (now WorldBoston) she worked on major fun-raising activities, and hosted multiple VIPs including former President George Bush, then Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney, Secretary James Baker, Javier Solana, Senators John McCain and John Kerry.

Now a resident of Naples, she is Past President of the Naples Council on World Affairs, and remains Program Chairman.  She was elected to the National Board of the World Affairs Councils of America in 2004, and was named National Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee in 2005.
