No Child Left Inside

Join the Greenville Zoo as we celebrate the great outdoors! On March 23 from 9:00am-3:00pm the zoo and community will be raising awareness of the need for children to get outside and off the couch. In 2011 congress passed the No Child Left Inside Act, this act was established to encourage the reconnection with nature among children. Many organizations and activities will be onsite to showcase ways for children to get involved in learning about science and nature outside.

 Enrichment Day

What is enrichment? Enrichment is anything that enhances the natural behaviors of an animal. At the Greenville Zoo our animals get a lot of enrichment to keep them healthy and happy but join us for a special day as the keepers celebrate all things "enrichment"! Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 9:00am to 3:00pm the zoo residents will be given toys and other variations of enrichment for the guests to watch animals excersizing and playing. Lions will pounce and monkeys will leap, while educators describe the behaviors and activities taking place. Be sure to not miss this exciting day of fun.

Calling All Volunteers!

We need your help! A big part of what we do here at the zoo is through the help of volunteers, especially camps. Volunteers have a wide variety of responsibilities. Education volunteers help with family programs and the summer camps. Without them camps would not be possible. Whatever you are looking for, we have a place for you. For more information visit the volunteer page at the Greenville Zoo's webpage, or download the volunteer application and return it to the zoo (150 Cleveland Park Drive, Greenville, SC 29601).
FrogWatch USA

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums spearheads a citizen science project to help monitor frog breeding behaviors called FrogWatch USA. The Greenville Zoo has a very active chapter of this national effort called FROGZ (FrogWatch Researchers of the Greenville Zoo) and we are wanting to spread to even more of the upstate. If you are interested in becoming a part of this family- friendly frog watch effort, come join us at the zoo on Saturday, March 9 from 10:00am to 3:00pm for training on how to recognize and document these fascinating critters. Classes are pre-registered so please call 864-467-4850 to register. Together, with programs like Frogwatch USA, we CAN make a positive difference in the frog populations.
