Manufacturing Career Fair Was A Huge Success!

In South Florida more than 75 manufacturers participated in four separate Career Fairs. Approximately 800 job seekers attended one or more of the 4 Career Fairs. We are waiting to hear how many of those job seekers obtained jobs - stay tuned!

Florida TRADE Consortium News

Broward College -  As part of Broward College's Next Level Academy workshop series to promote work readiness, an Employer Forum was held on 4/21/15.  Nine employers participated in the event to highlight the value of soft skills. 

SFMA Board Member, Ana Sasmiresan, Randstad Area Vice President, and Karelia Austin shared information with the group as did SFMA Member Aero Turbine's Director of Human Resources, Lynn McMillan.   Other manufacturer/distribution employers participating in the event include Alexander Malaty, Arnet Pharmaceutical Facility Manager, and Ryan Van Portfleet, Fastenal General Manager.

Broward College engaged two manufacturing professionals and SFMA members to provide students and Florida TRADE grant participants with a Project Management Presentation on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.  The presentation was part of Broward College North Campus' Next Level Academy workshop series that focuses on providing work readiness skills.  Over 60 persons participated in the workshop.  Special thanks to our speakers - Randy Dal Molin, PMP at Hoerbiger and Jonathan Greenwald, MS at Stryker Mako.

 

Indian Riverhas 11 graduates of their Fast Track to Manufacturing Program as of Saturday April 25th. Several have been on interviews already and we are expecting rapid absorption of the candidates into manufacturing employment.

Women In Manufacturing
Manufacturing Institute published a study on omen in manufacturing: "Exploring the Gender Gap". Through STEP Ahead, hundreds of women from all levels of manufacturing
have been recognized for excellence and leadership in their careers. By telling the real stories of these women, girls will be inspired to familiarize themselves with the industry through our mentorship program and eventually become the next manufacturing leaders study can be seen here.  Download the study here.
