The HUB is now recycling banners! Any banner you have - big or small, vinyl or cloth - can now be taken to the information desk at the HUB and properly recycled! Be sure to tell any organizations you work with how to dispose of their banners so as to not create more waste!

Carnegie Mellon researchers found that eating an
all-local diet
saves the greenhouse gas equivalent of driving 1000 fewer miles annually, but eating a
vegetarian diet
1 day per week is equal to
driving 1160 fewer miles per year. Imagine the environmental
and health benefits of doing both!

"What is Sustainability?"
Come on Sept. 17th, Find Out and Get
Energized!
  Rob Andrejewski
Here at the Sustainability Institute, we hear that question often and we have some answers. Rob Andrejewski will present some core concepts about how sustainability relates to your lives, to Penn State and actions you can take.

Join us for this Brown Bag lunch, Tuesday, September 17th

Closing the Loop on Waste -
Welcome Mbius
  Mobi
In our last Grapevine, we asked all the creative thinkers out there to help determine a new name for our composting program, originally named "No Can Do." And we have struck gold with mbius!

A "mbius strip" refers to a length of paper that has been given a half twist, and then has been connected end-to-end to create an elegant, continuous loop. Thus, the idea behind the mbius campaign of Penn State is to close the loop on waste! We hope to stop the tradition of "take, make, waste" that much of our culture practices daily.

Mbius will be making its way around campus in the next few months, and you can expect to see mbi our mascot, make his way to all corners of the University. But, until then, learn more about Mobius here.

Also, get in on the discussion on Yammer! Join the Mobius group and let us know what you think!
Tour the Glory, Tour the Green!
Recently, the Sustainability Institute has been working on a virtual Green Tour for the Penn State University Park Campus, and now it is here! This virtual tour will allow you to
  • See all the LEED Certified buildings on campus
  • Get a look into what makes them so sustainable
  • Experience Penn State's beautiful campus from home
  • Or load it onto your phone or table, and take the actual tour!

Please explore the new site here and

let us know what you think!

Know someone that wants to get involved?

Have them join your Green Team! Or, even better, start their own! Orientations for new Green Teams and Green Paws members are run throughout the year, starting again in September.

The next two upcoming orientations will be on
  • Tuesday, September 10 at 3:00 pm for Green Teams. Register here
  • Thursday, September 12 at 3:00 pm for Green Paws. Register here

They are on campus, and last about an hour. For those on Commonwealth Campuses, you can simply join in through Adobe Connect! To see a full listing of all orientations, go to our website under Resources - Events Calendar, or click here!

Word Marks are here!

After the rebranding of the Sustainability Institute, our website, and our publications- it was time to rebrand the Green Teams! Transitioning into a new blue for our Green Teams, all words marks are now blue and black, rather than green and black. These can be used to put on folder, flyers, agendas, and anything else you wish to attach your name to! To find your team's new Word Mark, follow this link. It had folders for each team, with a .pdf, .jpg, and .png version of each Word Mark.
