 FLORIDA PTA MEMBERS
ELECT OFFICERS FOR 2014-2016 
 

 

Orlando, Florida - Over 1,200 members of the Florida PTA gathered for the Annual Leadership/ Convention, Friday, July 11th through Sunday, July 13th at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor.  At the event, the following officers were elected and installed:

 

 

                  President: Mindy Haas - Palm Beach County

                  President Elect: Cindy Gerhardt - Escambia County

                  Vice President of Leadership Development: Linda Kearschner- Pinellas County

                  Vice President of Regions & Councils: Tammy Weaver- Orange County

                  Vice President for Educational Development: Graham Rabinowitsch- Broward County

                  Vice President for Membership Development: LaTasha Green-Cobb- Duval County

                  Secretary: Joseph Piecora- Hernando County

                  Treasurer: Jennifer Martinez- Palm Beach County

 

Convention delegates participated in over 100 different workshops. Florida PTA's Leadership/ Convention provides an important opportunity for PTA members from across the state to network, exchange ideas, enhance their skills and become empowered leaders.

 

In the business meetings held, delegates voted unanimously on Resolutions that are now added to the Florida PTA platform:

  • Supporting Florida's Homeless Students
  • Summer Learning Loss
  • Response to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence in Schools 

There was much excitement on Saturday, from the members as they greeted our Keynote Speaker, Dr. John Fitzgerald Gates. Dr. Gates is an esteemed Organizational Scientist and expert in Strategic Diversity Management. He spoke eloquently on the topic of diversity and left our members feeling inspired to say the least. On Saturday, Florida PTA was proud to present in cooperation with the Florida Department of Education, The Parent Involvement Awards Luncheon, Pam Stewart, Florida's Commissioner of Education, addressed the attendees. On Sunday, President Eileen Segal wrapped up convention and welcomed the new leaders for 2014-2016. Members expressed gratitude for President Segal's leadership and for President Haas' future leadership with the association. We are all PTA Proud!
