Why Florida PTA Reinforces the Need to PAUSE
on the Florida State Standards
A widespread computer glitch prevented thousands of students from logging into their computer to take the current FCAT exam today, while many other students received an "error message" upon completion of taking the high-stakes test.
Florida PTA supports a PAUSE before fully implementing Florida's new assessment test in all K-12 grade levels until there is complete confidence in a reliable and valid test; secure and tested infrastructure at all public schools for upgraded technology; complete confidence in student and teacher preparation; and appropriate and realistic benchmarks to be set that will remain in place with each year.
Today's example of testing inefficiencies is cause for concern. Even Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart, referred to today's debacle as an "inexcusable failure."
Please contact Commissioner Stewart, Governor Rick Scott, Senate President Don Gaetz and Speaker of the House Will Weatherford in support of Florida PTA's position to PAUSE on the Florida State Standards Test.
