Welcome to 2014!!
I hope you and your families had a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Now that the New Year has begun, it is time to get back to advocating for all of Florida's children.
As the Legislative Session will soon be upon us, please join us in advocating for our children by contacting your Senators and Representatives at their local offices, prior to the Regular Session, and let your voices be heard. If you haven't signed up this year for Florida PTA's Take Action Network, please do so immediately on our Florida PTA website. Join our Facebook page for up-to-the-minute information on Bills that will be addressed during Session. Our children deserve a quality public education and it the legislature's paramount duty to properly fund public education.
Florida PTA is proud to have some wonderful events planned in the next few months, so mark your calendars.
March 16-18, 2014 - Legislation Education Conference in Tallahassee, Florida. Registration is now open. Check our website for information and links to register or call the State office.
July 11-13, 2014 - Leadership/Convention will be here before you know it. Our Leadership team will be meeting shortly with the staff at the Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida to make sure the property and convention area will meet all your needs. We read all your evaluations and we are listening.
Membership Matters Year Round! Please keep it coming and stay tuned for another "PTA Connect Day" in Florida. Remember dues are to be sent to the State Office monthly. If you haven't joined a local unit, do so today!!! No reason that Florida PTA should not have the largest PTA in the Nation! Have you seen our incentives? Check out our website and see what we are offering the local unit and County Council for an increase in membership. Did you know that Florida PTA has its own local unit? We do! It is called the Sunshine PTA and you can join for just $10.00. Go on our web site and fill out a membership application today!
As a local unit leader, you should be reading your bylaws to see when you should be holding your next general meeting. It is also probably time to look into electing a Nominating Committee. Follow your bylaws to see who is eligible to serve on this committee.
I am also looking to visit your school and attend a PTA meeting. If you are interested in having me, please contact me at President@floridapta.org and I will try to schedule a meeting with your PTA...that goes for County Councils, too.
Remember, Florida PTA is here to serve you, so please do not hesitate to contact the state office at 407.855.7601 or 1.800.373.5782 or by email,
info@floridapta.org.
Why? Because our children matter!
