Toyota Will Begin Commercial Production of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle to December
On June 4, The Japan Times reported that the Toyota Motor Corp. plans to begin commercial production of their fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in mid-December of 2014. This deadline is earlier than initial projections, which expected production to begin in 2015.
The FCEV will be produced at the Toyota Motor Corp. Motomachi plant, in Toyota, Japan.

Ocean State Clean Cities: Hydrogen Forum Focuses On Fuel Cell Vehicles
On May 28, the Ocean State Clean Cities: Hydrogen Forum was hosted by the Northeast Electrochemical Energy Storage Cluster (NEESC). The policy forum, industry briefing, and technology showcase focused on fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) as a means to meet zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) objectives.
Featured panel experts included representatives from a range of regional and national private organizations and state agencies. Panel experts discussed existing policies, potential deployment strategies and infrastructure requirements for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and hydrogen fueling and energy storage technologies.

FCHEA 2014 Annual Membership Meeting
The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association will be holding its 2014 Annual Membership Meeting, on Wednesday June 18, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM EST. The meeting will be a working lunch and is held in conjunction with the Department of Energy's Annual Merit Review (DOE AMR).
The meeting is being held at Balcony B (Mezzanine Level) of the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. The Wardman Park Hotel address is 2660 Woodley Road, NW, Washington D.C. 20008 and is accessible via the D.C. metro system.

[NEW] DOE Announces up to $4.6 Million to Support Innovations in Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Fuel Technologies
On June 5, the Department of Energy (DOE) Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) released a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to support innovations in fuel cell and hydrogen fuel technologies.
The FOA is intended to identify potentially impactful technologies that are not already addressed in FCTO's strategic plan or project portfolio. The FOA is open to ideas which will significantly advance the mission of the FCTO and that are relevant to its Multi-Year Program Plan (MYPP).
The DOE will make available up to $4.6 million for 12-24 month projects with industry and academia.
Concept Papers are due by July 7, 2014. The full application submission deadline is September 3, 2014.

DOE Announces $2 Million to Develop Supply Chain, Manufacturing Competitiveness Analysis for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies
On May 21, the Department of Energy released a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for outreach and analysis projects supporting hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
The FOA targets the challenges present to fuel cell and hydrogen production scaling, which are currently built using laboratory fabrication techniques. The Fuel Cell Technologies Office, who manages the project, aims to reduce costs, improve process and develop better systems for fuel cell production and hydrogen production, delivery, and storage.
Topic one is for strategies and approaches to facilitate development and expansion of the domestic supply chain of hydrogen and fuel cell components. Topic two funds a global manufacturing competitive analysis for the technologies.
The full application submission deadline is June 30, 2014.

USDA Announces Rural Energy for America Program Funding
On May 6, the Department of Agriculture announced that it is again seeking applications for the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which funds energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy system installation for agriculture and rural small business.
REAP, authorized under the 2008 Farm Bill, plans to award $12.3 million in grants and $57.8 million in loan guarantees for 2014. Under REAP, renewable systems using hydrogen as an energy carrier are eligible for funding.
Applications for REAP are due by July 7, 2014.

DOE Issues Request for Information on Fuel Cell Research and Development Needs On May 5, the Department of Energy released a Request for Information (RFI) seeking feedback from stakeholders regarding topics for a potential Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) in 2015, focused on fuel cells for multiple applications. The purpose of the RFI is to solicit feedback on R&D needs and technical barriers to the commercialization of fuel cells. The DOE is specifically focused on information concerning the development of low-cost fuel cell components and increased performance and durability.
