Table Tips: How to Save Time at the Table

Here are a few tips you can use to save precious time at the table that can be used for important things like thinking about the hand!

    1. Don't postmortem the hands at the table, but save your discussion until after the game. Use the time between hands to sort your cards, record results, and prepare to bid.

    2. Lead first before you do any housekeeping, such as recording the contract on a personal scoresheet. Getting the lead on the table moves the hand along for everyone.

    3. Try to avoid creating director calls by promptly alerting partner's bids, knowing your agreements, bidding in turn, etc.

    4. Consider your rebid when you make your opening bid. Thinking about the whole hand at once saves time -- and usually leads to better bidding results too.

    5. Concentrate during the opponent's bidding so you can have your opening lead ready when the bidding ends.
