IMPORTANT: Seven HealthKeeper Plans Revised Due to IRS Violation

The Bureau of Insurance (BOI) rescinded their earlier approval of seven 2015 Anthem Small Group Healthkeepers (SGH) plans. The plans violated an IRS code that does not permit both the copayment and coinsurance for emergency room care.

The BOI re-approved the following impacted plans after the coinsurance was removed:
  • Gold OAPOS 1500/20%/3500
  • Gold OAPOS 1500/30%/4250
  • Gold OAPOS 500/20%/3500
  • Gold OAPOS 2000/20%/3500
  • Silver OAPOS 4000/20%/6600
  • Silver OAPOS 2000/50%/6350

NOTE: All impacted SBCs have been updated. However, Anthem is still working on updating its online product comparison chart.

UPDATE: National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers (NARAB)

The NARAB establishes a national organization to oversee insurance producer reciprocal non-resident licensing and continuing education standards.

Participation in NARAB will be entirely voluntary for producers and producers they will still need to go through their home state to obtain a resident license to participate in NARAB.

Compliance Requirement: Maryland Physician-Related Disclosure 

To be compliant with Code of Maryland regulations (COMAR 31.10.17), a disclosure to include physician compensation and payment methods must be distributed to Maryland customers at the time of new business and renewing plan selection and at enrollment.

Brokers are asked to distribute the disclosure to their clients.
