Cloud Talk

Irene Schmoller Shadow Weave Shawl

I remember how proud I was of the first kitchen towel I wove!
I lovingly sent it to my mother for her Mother's Day gift, imagining how many dishes she would have dried by the time I was to return home for the holidays.
Imagine my disappointment when I walked into the kitchen and didn't see my handwoven towel.  "Oh, I put it away in the drawer." my mother replied, "I didn't want to mess it up."
"No Ma, you have to USE it!  I want to see how Cotton Clouds' yarns hold up.  This is an experiment!"
When I returned that summer, I could tell that this well-worn, but still in great shape kitchen towel had caressed many a dish, just as my mother was now caressing it.  Mission accomplished!
There is no greater joy than to weave your own cotton kitchen towels.  There are so many possibilities of colors, textures, patterns and end uses.  Weavers love to weave towels!  A simple shape that requires nothing more than a quick hem and the fabric is ready to use.
Our 8/2 unmercerized cotton, Aurora Earth yarn is  the #1 choice for most of our towel kits, but we also use Cottolin, Foxfibre, Bambu 125/2 Perle, Linen and Cotton Flake. Once off the loom, all they need is a good laundering to remove sizing and they fluff up beautifully.
Thanks to Interweave Press' new e-books, we are able to make so many of Handwoven's towel projects available as convenient, money-saving and hassle-free ordering kits for you.  Purchase them individually or for even greater savings (Free Shipping), join a Cotton Clouds' Kit-of-the-Month Towel Club!  We now have two for 4-Shaft looms and a new club for 8-Shaft looms.
What better way to keep your loom warped and your cupboards overflowing with kitchen towels, than to join our club and receive a new kit either every  (12 month club) or every other (6 month club) month all year long!

     Happy Weaving!
