Cloud Talk

Irene Schmoller Shadow Weave Shawl

Harry & Olive Linder were the pioneers into spinning cotton.       They believed that every spinner could spin cotton, once they had an understanding of cotton's unique characteristics and some basic techniques of spinning cotton.

Handspinning Cotton was self-published by the Linders in 1977 but soon went out-of-print even after several printings.

It's re-publication has long been overdue. I was greatly influenced by the Linders, when I took a pre-Convergence workshop with them in 1978 and turned my life around to spin, weave and exclusively wear cotton!  It was because of the Harry & Olive that I started Cotton Clouds.

Joan S. Ruane was also greatly influenced by them and has become internationally recognized as a leading cotton spinning instructor  and author of two DVD's: Cotton Spinning with a Takli and Cotton Spinning Made Easy.

Both Joan and I joined forces this past summer and updated the original version which we left in its original form to re-published this treasured classic.

Much new information is now available to the current cotton spinner since the Linders first wrote this text. Joan's expertise in teaching spinning for over 30 years has guided her to update the information to appeal to today's spinner with new and improved wheels, cotton spinning fibers and know-how.

"I have a copy of Handspinning Cotton from the old days. I'm so glad you re-published this book! There is a wealth of information in there and I will recommend it to all my spinning pals. I just have to get them to spin more cotton. I'm working on them. They see the yards and yards of cotton I've spun and want to try again." Annie Toth

Handspinning Cotton is the bible of successful cotton spinning.  It covers everything from fiber preparation to adjusting your wheel for spinning, plying, dyeing, finishing and tips on knitting, weaving, and crocheting with your handspun cotton yarns.

Have fun spinning cotton!  It's really easy and fun!
