I came to spinning through the back door!
It was 1972, Santa Barbara, CA and I was determined to learn how to weave through the local community college.
I'd heard that there was ONE open slot in the on-going class so I awoke at 5:00 am to be the first person in line to get my seat at the loom. When I got there, someone was standing in line ahead of me. No luck learning to weave that day!
So instead I signed up for a spinning class with Jenny Norris. What a fabulous teacher! I was hooked from the get-go!
There's a moment when you realize that you are "a spinner" and one that you will never forget! I was sitting outside her home under a Eucalyptus tree spinning on my
Ashford Traditional Spinning Wheel when it all just clicked and I knew I could spin my own yarns for the rest of my life!
Now, some 40 years later I still love to spin. I love to spin cotton on my simple
brass-whorl Tahkli spindle. I can take it anywhere I go and feel like I'm getting something accomplished even when I'm waiting in the doctor's office; online at the grocery store (I get in the slowest lines); on long road trips (when someone else is driving) and even while on the phone listening to a friend pour out her broken heart!
Spinning is my passion! That's why I'm so excited about
