Cotton Classic Scarf

My sister, the non-knitter, non-crafter but high-style New York fashionista, fell in love with this Cotton Classic Blooming Scarf featured in my last e-newsletter.
Being the older sister that she is, she can demand anything from me and I will bend to her wind, mainly because there is great love and compassion between us.
So I started knitting this sideways constructed scarf with my favorite 100% mercerized cotton yarn, Cotton Classic in the Murex & Mango color way. (There are three others to choose from.)
The task has been made more enjoyable because I love how Cotton Classic feels in my hands.  It is soft and silky with a bit of a sheen.  That's because it is spun from quality long staple cotton fibers (softness) and mercerized for durability and colorfastness (sheen). Plus it's a "cabled" cotton with fine strands of yarn plied (twisted) together and then several (four to be exact) plies that are all twisted together into one yarn.
Don't be fooled by what looks like a complicated pattern.  You just have to jump in and start knitting the design. That's what I had to do after reading and re-reading the directions in confusion.   Once you start you will see that it is the clever darker color slip stitch that creates the border around each color cell.
It takes a bit getting used to the idea of knitting sideways but that's the only way you are going to achieve the vertical stripes.
And how in the world do you end up with that fringe? Silly me, should have known that Eunny Jang, designer and editor of Interweave Knits would have figured out a  unique twist to the fringe.    You're just going to have to try it for yourself to see what surprises she has in store for your knitting!

And boy will my sister be surprised in a few weeks when this Blooming Scarf arrives at her door, knit with love from her little sister.  She always knew how to get me to do what she wanted. But this time I really wanted to do it!

     Happy Knitting!
