Canada Day Celebrations
It's that time of year again! Canada Day is coming and the City of Fort St. John has planned a full day of activities. Start the festivities with the annual Canada Day Parade then head down to Centennial Park to enjoy the Classic Cruisers Show 'n Shine, live entertainment, Farmers' Market, crafts for kids, games, bouncy castles, road hockey, World Fair, food vendors and so much more. Complete your day with an amazing fireworks display at dusk at the Surerus ball diamonds.

Wheelchair Sports
Coming this summer to the City of Fort St. John is Wheelchair Basketball.
Wheelchair sports are becoming very popular among both able bodied and individuals who have physical limitations. Our Wheelchair sports program is open for everyone to try, with sport chairs available for participants to use.
The program will run every second Friday: July 10th, 24th, August 7th, and the 21st, at the North Peace Arena from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
These will be drop-in sessions. Cash only: $3 for adults and $2 for children under the age of 17. Come out and try a new experience!
Y.A.C. - Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council is currently seeking new members. This group of youth from the community meets twice a week from 4:30pm - 5:30pm at City Hall. Meetings include discussions, presentations to council, and having it recognised that there is a lack of youth programs being offered in the city during the summer months.
The council is responsible for planning events and activities for FSJ youths that will run every Wednesday night this summer from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Actual dates, times, and locations will be announced shortly.

2015 Poker Run
The Peace Region Community to Community Poker Run is a unique recreational event located in the Peace Region organized for motorcycle enthusiasts and planned for an enjoyable day of riding with friends. While visiting each of the towns Visitor Centre's in the Peace Region riders can swap riding stories, enjoy snacks and beverages, as well as compete for the best poker hand and win some incredible prizes.
The event will kick off sharply at 9:00am at the Fort St. John Visitor Centre, located at the Pomeroy Sport Center on August 15th, Registration for the event is now open. Early bird registration is $25 until August 6th, and then $30 until the event check-in at 8:30am.
Monday Tumble Time

Bring your family to the Kids Arena Field House for some Active Play. Crawl through tunnels, play with sports gear, and jump on the bouncy castles. Tumble Time has something for everyone. Don't forget your indoor shoes and water bottle. This is a CASH only program.
Camp Caboodle

Camp Caboodle is a week long day camp filled with many activities. From swimming, bouncy castles, group games, crafts, skating, and more - coming to Camp Caboodle will make this a special summer for your child. Participants must have completed kindergarten in order to register.

Get moving this Summer at Camp Kinetic. This camp is for children and youth who want a jam packed summer. This week long day camp will be filled with swimming, group games, park visits, theme days, pitch time, and more. Camp Kinetic is the ultimate Summer experience.
Drop In Ball Hockey

Drop in Ball hockey is for the hockey enthusiasts who are missing the ice already. This program requires indoor running shoes and a hockey stick (without tape on the end). We strongly recommend equipment but it is optional. Goalies wishing to play must have FULL equipment and check in at the front desk, otherwise shooter tooters will be set up for each noon hour. As this is drop in programming there will be no coach or instructor onsite.

Boots, Scoots & Boards is an all ages program that is for the entire family! Roller blades/rollerskates, scooters, longboard/skateboards are all welcome. Rollerbladers/Rollerskaters are to use the inside of the oval and slower users, such as longboards and scooters are to use the outside of the oval. Helmets are required for kids 12 years and younger and recommended for everyone. Please ensure to wipe and clean wheels before entering the oval. This use is strictly for casual use only, and not for completing tricks and stunts. Strollers are also welcome with the use of roller blades/skates. No hockey equipment allowed on the oval (sticks, pucks/balls etc). All children 8 and under are to be accompanied by an adult or person(s) 16 years or older. No bikes.
Learn To Ride

Learn to Ride is an all ages event however, it is recommended for kids 2 - 8 years old with parent/guardian participation. Bring your scooter, skateboard, bike with training wheels, strider, or roller blades down to enjoy a kid friendly atmosphere to help teach your beginners the basics of riding/blading in a safe place. Adult Multi-Sport League
Date: July 8 - August 12
Location: North Peace Arena
Times: Wednesdays from 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Cost: $40/6 weeks
Ages 18+ only. Get ready for this exciting new program at the North Peace Arena! Each week there will be a new sport to challenge your team. Soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball, handball, and lacrosse will all be featured in this fun and social sports league.
Games will take place on Wednesday nights and will be scheduled in 1 hour time slots (including a warm up). A Recreation Attendant will supervise games, run the clock, and provide first aid if necessary.
Registration is done as singles but players are encouraged to sign up in couples or small groups and request to be placed on the same team. Requests will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. You can register at the Visitor Center, the North Peace Leisure Pool, or by phone by calling 250-785-3033. This program has a participant sign up limit so sign up today. Participants will be supplied with a team roster, game schedule, and rules before their first week of play.

Summer Pool Schedule
Beginning June 28th the pool will have a new summer schedule. You can find the schedule on the North Peace Leisure Pool webpage. Also, d uring some swims we will be playing games in the leisure and the lap pool from 12:30pm - 2:30pm Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays. On Thursday nights in July & August we will be playing water sports in the lap pool, sometimes in the shallow, and sometimes in the deep end, from 8:30pm - 9:30pm. S ome of the sports include: inner tube water polo, water basketball, water volleyball, and underwater hockey.
Summer Swim Lessons
There will be swim lessons running all summer in a Monday - Friday schedule, with no weekend lessons, for the following lesson sets:

Home Alone Course
Date & Time: July 2 from 10:00am - 1:00pm
Cost: 39.05 + tax
This program is designed to provide children 9 to 11 years of age with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. The program focuses on group discussions, problem solving, role-playing, and instructor-led demonstrations. The Student Reference Book is designed to allow the program participants to actively participate in class assignments. It provides a review of the program material, as well as additional information that will be of value to the students. Upon the completion of this program, each child will to able to:
- Establish a daily routine
- Manage their time more efficiently
- Identify what responsibilities they have while being home alone
- Demonstrate what to do in case of an emergency and how and when to call 911
- Understand the basics of first aid procedures
AED Responder Course Date & Time: July 2 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm Location: Pomeroy Sport Center - 2nd Floor Meeting Room This certification course is designed for individuals who are required to use an AED as part of their job. Prerequisites: Any current First Aid or CPR certification **IMPORTANT** Candidates MUST arrive to class with proof of First Aid or CPR certification. Please remember to bring a water bottle, note taking materials, etc.
Babysitting Course
Date & Time: July 2 & 3 from 2:00pm - 6:00pm (both days)
Cost: $94.65 + tax
The Canadian Red Cross Course is aimed towards children age 11-15. It teaches the business of babysitting, creating safe environments while caring for babies to school age children and handling emergencies and basic first aid situations.
Completion Requirements: 100% attendance, skills demonstration, and 75% min. passing grade on written exam
Bronze Star
Dates & Times: July 6 - 10 & July 13 - 17 (Monday - Friday) from 10:00am - 11:00am
Cost: $96.49 + tax
Bronze Star is a pre-Bronze Medallion program that helps prepare candidates for success in Bronze Medallion. In Bronze Star, participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills as individuals and in partners. Candidates develop WaterSmartŪ confidence and learn basic lifesaving and resuscitation skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Includes 400 meter timed swim.
Prerequisites:
- 8 years old (recommended 12 years old)
- Ability to swim
Standard First Aid Course
Dates & Times: July 19 & 26 from 8:00am - 5:00pm
Cost: $224.04
Participants will use hands-on training and practice to learn the first aid skills necessary to respond with confidence in an emergency. This comprehensive Standard First Aid course covers all the information in the emergency first aid program and more! This class provides participants with the training they need to deal with:

Bronze Medallion
Dates & Times: July 20 - 24 & July 27 - 31 (Monday - Friday) from 9:00am - 11:00am
Cost: $255.63
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn advanced lifesaving techniques for challenging rescues of increased risk, involving conscious and unconscious victims in varying water depths. Participants develop stroke efficiency and endurance in timed swims (500 meters). Includes CPR-A.
Prerequisites: 13 years old or Bronze Star certification
