National Health Day

Did you know that June 6th has been officially proclaimed "National Health and Fitness Day" in Canada? The City of Fort St. John is celebrating this occasion by offering free fitness classes, educational segments, and the opportunity for all to find out how you can live a healthy lifestyle in our city. All events will take place at the Pomeroy Sport Centre and a schedule of events will be available very soon. This event is entirely free so be sure take advantage of this great opportunity.

 

2015/2016 Indoor Field (KAFH) Allocation Meeting

 

Date: June 16

Time: 7:00pm

Location: First Floor Meeting Room

 

The Community Services Department invites indoor field user groups interested in booking the Kids Arena Field House (KAFH) from Sept 2015 to April 2016 to attend the allocation meeting on Tuesday June 16, 2015 at the Pomeroy Sport Centre.

 

User groups should email a copy of their requests to reservations@fortstjohn.ca by June 2nd.  If you have not received your allocation package via email, please request a package to complete and send in.

 

Each group is required to send two (2) representatives with the authority to negotiate and make decisions on behalf of the group.

 

Please bring to the meeting:

  • Copy of insurance
  • Society registration number (if applicable)

Drop In Ball Hockey

 

Date: Now until July 10

Location: West Dry Floor
 
Cost: Adults - $3, Kids (17 and under) - $2 - Please pay at the Visitor Centre prior to playing.

Times:

Ages 6-11 - Fridays from 6:00pm-7:00pm
Ages 12-15 - Fridays 7:00pm-8:30pm
Adults (ages 15+) - Monday, Wednesday & Friday 11:30am-1:30pm
Adults (ages 15+) - Saturdays 7:00pm-8:30pm
All Ages/Families - Saturdays 6:00pm-7:00pm

  

Drop in Ball hockey is for the hockey enthusiasts who are missing the ice already. This program requires indoor running shoes and a hockey stick (without tape on the end). We strongly recommend equipment but it is optional. Goalies wishing to play must have FULL equipment and check in at the front desk, otherwise shooter tooters will be set up for each noon hour. As this is drop in programming there will be no coach or instructor onsite.

 

Boots, Scoots & Boards

 

Date: Now until July 10
Location: Second Floor Oval
Cost: Adults - $3, Kids (17 and under) - $2 - Please pay at the Visitor Centre prior to playing.

Times:

Daily Sessions run Monday - Friday from 11:30am - 1:30pm

Evening sessions run Thursdays & Sundays from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

 

Boots, Scoots & Boards is an all ages program that is for the entire family! Roller blades/rollerskates, scooters, longboard/skateboards are all welcome.  Rollerbladers/Rollerskaters are to use the inside of the oval and slower users, such as longboards and scooters are to use the outside of the oval. Helmets are required for kids 12 years and younger and recommended for everyone. Please ensure to wipe and clean wheels before entering the oval. This use is strictly for casual use only, and not for completing tricks and stunts. Strollers are also welcome with the use of roller blades/skates. No hockey equipment allowed on the oval (sticks, pucks/balls etc). All children 8 and under are to be accompanied by an adult or person(s) 16 years or older. No bikes.

 

Learn To Ride

 

Date: Now until July 9

Location: Second Floor Oval

Times: Thursdays & Sundays from 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Cost: Adults - $3, Kids (17 and under) - $2 - Please pay at the Visitor Centre prior to playing.

 

Learn to Ride is an all ages event however, it is recommended for kids 2 - 8 years old with parent/guardian participation. Bring your scooter, skateboard, bike with training wheels, strider, or roller blades down to enjoy a kid friendly atmosphere to help teach your beginners the basics of riding/blading in a safe place. Helmets are required for kids 12 years and younger and recommended for everyone. Adult Multi-Sport League

 

Date: July 8 - August 12

Location: North Peace Arena

Times: Wednesdays from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Cost: $40/6 weeks

 

Ages 18+ only. Get ready for this exciting new program at the North Peace Arena! Each week there will be a new sport to challenge your team. Soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball, handball, and lacrosse will all be featured in this fun and social sports league.

Games will take place on Wednesday nights and will be scheduled in 1 hour time slots (including a warm up). A Recreation Attendant will supervise games, run the clock, and provide first aid if necessary.

Registration is done as singles but players are encouraged to sign up in couples or small groups and request to be placed on the same team. Requests will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. You can register at the Visitor Center, the North Peace Leisure Pool, or by phone by calling 250-785-3033. This program has a participant sign up limit so sign up today. Participants will be supplied with a team roster, game schedule, and rules before their first week of play.

The pool will be closed on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 for the Stingrays swim meet. The concession and lobby area will be open but there will be no swimming, showers, or cardio room access. For more information about this or any other events, call 250-787-8178.
  
Babysitting Course
  
Date & Time: June 19 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm & June 20 from 9:00am - 2:30pm
Cost: $94.65 + tax
  
The Canadian Red Cross Course is aimed towards children age 11-15. It teaches the business of babysitting, creating safe environments while caring for babies to school age children and handling emergencies and basic first aid situations.

Completion Requirements: 100% attendance, skills demonstration, and 75% min. passing grade on written exam

Come in and cool off, joust with your friends, or hit the water slide for Tween & Teen night! The concession will be open and has a variety of food and drinks for you to purchase.
  
Senior's Toonie Swim & Tea
  
Date: June 30
Time: 10:30am - 12:00pm
Cost: $2 for seniors 65+

Come in, take a cooling swim, and then sit down for a cup of tea with your friends.
  

Canada Day Celebrations

 

Come and check out Fort St. John's annual Canada Day Celebrations in Centennial Park on July 1st! Start the festivities with the Canada Day Parade and then make your way to Centennial Park to enjoy the Classic Cruisers Show 'n Shine, live entertainment, Farmers' Market, crafts for kids, games, World Fair, food vendors and so much more! Complete your day with an amazing fireworks display at dusk.
