Pictch-In Week
The City of Fort St. John is coordinating Pitch-In Week, May 11 - 7, 2014 as part of the spring clean-up and beautification efforts in the community. During this week, hundreds of community minded volunteers come together in celebration and pride to pick up the wintertime garbage and debris found around our schools, city parks and open spaces.
As part of Pitch-In Week, Pitch-In Day is held each year to encourage community participation in maintaining a tidy City. We will be coordinating participating groups to Pitch-In all on the same day, Thursday, May 15.
Groups or individuals who are interested in participating in Pitch-In Day can contact communitydevelopment@fortstjohn.ca or 250.787.5791 by April 25.

YAC - Hosts Photo Scavenger Hunt
The Fort St. John Youth Advisory Council is hosting their first ever photo scavenger hunt contest, entitled, "Through Our Eyes: Fort St. John from a Youth Perspective".
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) was developed in 2010 to get a better sense of what Fort St. John's youth would like to see in Fort St. John, and to act as a liaison between the youth of the community and City Council. Shayla Faminow, the YAC's Chair says, "The YAC has organized numerous events in the community over the past years, aiming to provide our youth a social outlet in a positive environment. In the past we have organized several dances, participated in the Canada Day parade, and this year we want to try something different. We feel that a photo scavenger hunt aimed specifically at youth will give our generation a voice in our community."
The photo scavenger hunt will run March 24 through May 2, 2014. Participants may register in the individual category or as a group of up to four people. The contest will culminate in an art exhibit at the Fort St. John Visitor Centre on June 5. Submissions will be evaluated by a team of adjudicators, with the highest scoring images qualifying for the art exhibit. Unforgettable Memories, a sponsor for the project, will involve youth volunteers in the printing of the images that will hang in the art exhibit.
Mayor Lori Ackerman states, "Our Youth Advisory Council has come forward with a remarkable project that will not only showcase the community but will do so from the perspective of our youth. This photo scavenger hunt will provide learning opportunities and give insight into their view of the community, with all of the opportunities and challenges they see. Unforgettable Memories has once again stepped up and has offered assistance to ensure that the final result is attractive and something that we can all be proud of."
Registration will take place March 10 - March 24 and is open to Fort St. John residents and/or students enrolled in SD60 between the ages of 10 and 21. Participants must register at the Fort St. John Visitor Centre no later than March 24. Registration packages may also be downloaded on the City's website at www.fortstjohn.ca.

Spring Community One-Stop Registration
Citizens of Fort St John and surrounding areas have been attending this community event for over 20 years. The event brings together community groups, organizations, clubs and sport groups to one central location. By bringing everyone interested together, the community can then access every opportunity at one time and in one place. Group information, registration and schedules are given to interested persons, and many people will register the whole family for the upcoming season of activities.
Community One Stop provides a space for organizations to set up a booth, display their information and speak with interested people. Every spring and fall a "One Stop" is held to host the upcoming activities in the region for the community to see, register and join. There is something for everyone from literacy, dance, sports, health and wellness, art, martial arts, music and more!
The Spring 2014 Community One Stop will be on April 12 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Totem Mall. If you are an organization looking to register a table, forms will be available either the first or second week of March. You will be able to either download the form online (www.fortstjohn.ca/one-stop) or pick one up at any of our recreation facilities.
