Greetings!

It is election day here in the US and the past week's lead up to this day has been quite beyond eventful for those of us on the East Coast. If you were in its path, I hope that you were able to weather hurricane Sandy in excellent condition. Truly, my heart goes out to those who are still without power and especially to those facing worst-case scenarios.

Personally, my neighborhood was plunged into darkness last Monday evening. But even as power began to drain from my carefully charged electronics, knocks came at my door and text messages, voicemails, Facebook postings and Tweets of concern poured in from around the globe. I couldn't have wished for a better community during a time of need.

It reminds me to be grateful during this Thanksgiving month for the incredible community that we are as actors. Someone new to NYC recently asked me the best place to make friends. Without hesitation I replied, "An acting class, a show, a film set...even an audition line." I don't think that's the answer they were hoping for, but it certainly one that has been truer than true in my life.

Actors create community. We are a tribe. We are a family. In the ensuing days of recovery, please let me know if there's any way that I might be able to help you. You have my e-mail, my phone number, my Facebook page, my Twitter address...

A thousand times grateful-
Rhonda

Laser Acting Workshop: January 2013
Express
Monthly acting workshops...expand, explore, express!

The Laser Acting Workshop is on holiday hiatus during November & December.

But looking to get fueled by a truly life-changing workshop?  Then join Art & Soul Acting in December for the 5th annual Leap with Passion workshop.

Honestly, your 2013 will be glad you did!

 See details below.

What's Going on with Acting Class?
GrowFor an actor, acting class is the #1 laboratory for growth and exploration.  It is the place to take risks...a safe harbor where it's okay to let go of perfection in lieu of stretching and expanding beyond limitations.

Art & Soul Acting is growing and expanding and we are thrilled to launch our Boutique Acting Classes!

Boutique Acting Classes
  • Do have an idea for a class that you would like?  Great!
  • Are you a group of students looking for a specific class? Great!
  • Do you have a limited schedule and need a class built around you?  Great!
If you can dream it, we can build it.  Boutique Acting Classes offer students the flexibility to design their own classes in the timing that suits them.

Classes can either be held in person in NYC, or in the New York Metro region or they can be held online via Skype.

If you have an idea for a class you would like or would like to join one of my Boutique Acting Classes already in progress, please e-mail or call here.

We'd love to hear your ideas and explore the possibilities!

Mastering the Audition Juggernaut

A Weeklong, 35-Hour Intensive Acting Workshop

It has been said that to be a great actor you only need to know how to do 10 things really well... but you have to do all of them at the same time.

Auditions present a particular challenge to the actor. Not only do actors need to be fully present and do their very best acting on demand, but they also need to expertly handle the pressures of an audition room such that they slow down those precious 2 minutes and use them to their best advantage.

Actors have been told a thousand times over, "Be confident!" "Be yourself!" "Have fun!" Well, that just doesn't cut it. Left out of the equation is the critical HOW to actually do those things...and how to do them all within a limited span of time.

Mastering The Audition Juggernaut steps outside the box to approach mastering these mandatory skills from several angles. This is an on your feet workshop, not a sit in your seat lecture. Over the course of 6 days, actors will engage in a series of dynamic and expressive acting exercises designed to recalibrate the way they approach auditions.

Many teachers only tell you "what" you need to work on but
don't tell you "how" which IS the key to getting better quicker. With Rhonda you will receive strong, effective techniques that
will give you straight forward ideas and answers that will
serve you in the professional acting world.
~ James Pravasilis, Actor NYC ~

Participations will:
  • Learn a warm-up process that will bring them into creative flow
  • Discover a 4-part shortcut to great cold readings
  • Learn the best ways of preparing for an audition on their own
  • Learn how to take control of the audition room
  • Deepen their relationship with the camera
  • Increase their ability to work with ease while under pressure
WHEN: February 18-23, 2013, time TBD

WHERE: Studio in Cape Town, location given at time of registration

FEE: R2,500

Complete details & registration link to come.

Book Club for Actors': Making Play Reading Fun Since 2010

  Book Club

Actors are responsible for a tremendous amount of information. From knowing who is casting what, the latest industry trends, films, plays, actors and writers, to the business of knowing their place as actors within the various mediums of film, TV, stage, commercials and voiceovers...just to name a few. Notice, this doesn't even include learning and mastering the craft of acting...

Annoying Questions Asked of Actors
Annoying Questions
Some time ago I was chit chatting with a businessman on the Metro North train. Upon being asked what it was that I do, I could already feel myself bracing. I took the plunge and as the word actor came out of my mouth, I could already see the worst of my fears manifesting before my eyes: "What might I have seen you in?"

Each one of us has lived through some devastation, some loneliness, some
weather superstorm or spiritual superstorm, when we look at each other
we must say, I understand. I understand how you feel because I have
been there myself. We must support each other and empathize with each
other because each of us is more alike than we are unalike.
