Helped her mother survive by jumping inside trash cans to dig for bottles and cans to recylce for cash. "I want to engineer projects that will revolutionize the way societal road blocks are perceived. For instance, I want to help engineer technology to bring potable water to the one billion people in undeveloped countries who do not have access to it."

Placed in foster care at a young age, where she ultimately thought her life would end. "These impediments do not determine the person I am but shape the person I yearn to become. As a child I could not control many aspects of my life, but I look forward to my future because I know I have the ability to shape my own destiny."

Dreams of using the duality of her roots to transform her family's socio-economic shackles into a liberated, unified experience. Funded by Bill and Melinda Gates,The Gates Millennium Scholarship is the nation's most prestigious scholarship and is awarded to only 1,000 high school seniors across the nation. Fourteen of Reality Changers' inner-city students have earned this award in the past eight years. "Reality Changers is extremely proud of these students who have overcome tremendous odds and used their circumstances to fuel their dreams of becoming first generation college students," says Reality Changers Founder and President Christopher Yanov, "By guaranteeing funding up to a Phd, these scholarships can be worth up to $500,000 apiece, which makes me wonder how many more students like these we can produce if we dedicated our resources to inner-city students."
Reality Changes will be honoring these students, and almost 200 more inner-city youth, this Sunday, May 19th, at the 13th annual year-end celebration, "America's Finest: A Celebration of Education in San Diego," at the University of San Diego's Jenny Craig Pavilion at 3:30 p.m. This event is the region's top celebration for first-generation college students and inner-city youth, and over 2,000 guests are expected to attend.
