Prepare Your Practice for Value Based Payment: WNC Practice Transformation Workshop 8/24/16
Kathy Whitmire, Regional Vice President, Southeast with National Rural Accountable Care Consortium (NRACC), will present a workshop on the Practice Transformation Network (PTN) program as designed as a part of the Transforming Clinical Practices Initiative (TCPI) to help providers transition from fee-for-service to advanced payment models, and be able to succeed under the new guidelines for the Physician's Quality Report System (PQRS) and the Value-Based Modifiers (VBM).

WCMS Rural Medicine Affinity Group 9/8/16
Community Care of Western North Carolina will join the group to discuss the opioid crisis and potential resources for providers in the Region. We'll be meeting from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Mars Hill location of the Hot Springs Medical Program. Dinner will be provided.

Join NCMGMA & NCHFMA in Asheville on August 5th and New Bern on October 14th for a day filled with great educational content supplied by Elizabeth Woodcock and Appalachian State University.  This event will also provide great networking opportunities with other members and exhibitors. Registration includes lunch.

The Opioid Epidemic: Guidance for Healthcare Providers - October 6, 11, 13
Content for The Opioid Epidemic: Guidance for Healthcare Providers, will be tailored based on the specific needs of individual communities. In general, the trainings will be focused on practical clinical aspects of the role of prescribers, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers in providing pain management and prevention of and early intervention for substance use disorders.

Event flyers with details and registration information will be available soon. Each session will last 2.5-3 hours beginning at 5:30 p.m. and will include dinner.

Many Well-Known Hospitals Fail To Score 5 Stars In Medicare's New Ratings

The federal government released its first overall hospital quality rating on Wednesday, slapping average or below average scores on many of the nation's best-known hospitals while awarding top scores to dozens of unheralded ones.

EHRs a Major Factor in Physician Burnout, Panel Says

Between electronic health records (EHRs), mountains of paperwork, and the pressure to see as many patients as possible, the medical profession is experiencing skyrocketing rates of burnout. Some specialties report burnout levels as high as 55%, according to Medscape's most recent lifestyle survey of nearly 16,000 physicians across 25 specialties.

How I was Wrong about ObamaCare by Dr. Kocher - the only Physician on President Obama's ACA Advisory Board
I was wrong. Wrong about an important part of ObamaCare.

When I joined the Obama White House to advise the president on health-care policy as the only physician on the National Economic Council, I was deeply committed to developing the best health-care reform we could to expand coverage, improve quality and bring down costs. We worked for months to pass this landmark legislation, and I still count celebrating the passage of the Affordable Care Act with the president one balmy spring night in 2010 as one of my greatest Washington memories.
