Your Patients may be Eligible for Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening
Buncombe County, N.C. -In the blink of an eye, breast cancer can be a part of your world.  We lose our mothers, sisters, and friends to breast cancer every day.  According to North Carolina's State Center for Health Statistics, 9,772 women in North Carolina will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Of those diagnosed, 1,391 will die of breast cancer in 2015. We want to recognize those who have survived breast cancer, those who are fighting at this very moment, and honor those whom we lost to breast cancer.

Alert from BCDH: Acute Flaccid Myelitis
Despite the close association in timing in late 2014 between the national outbreak of severe respiratory illness among children caused by enterovirus-D68 and the increase in AFM cases, an etiology for the AFM cases was not determined. We are asking for your continued vigilance in identifying cases of AFM, irrespective of enterovirus status and age of patient.  Reporting of these cases will help public health officials monitor for increases in this illness and better understand potential causes, risk factors, and preventive measures or therapies.

Preventing Burnout: Finding Joy in Medicine
From TheHappyMD.com - Work Life Balance for Doctors - Three Steps to Saying NO with Grace and Power

Choosing to be a Physician is a lot like inviting an 800 pound gorilla to be a permanent house guest. Gorillas are big, take up a lot of space, eat all your food and are not house trained ... so there are messes to clean up every week.

Left to its own devices, your Medical Career will knock your work life balance out by doing the very same things ...
  • Take up every spare minute
  • Use all your energy, patience, empathy and attention
  • Mess up your other relationships by crowding them out or interrupting at the worst possible moment
Work Life Balance can go out the window very quickly. The Career that was supposed to give you a great life ... quickly becomes the entire focus of your life ... and physician Burnout starts nipping at your heels.

All is not lost ...

Just like a gorilla can be trained to perform amazing acts of patience and skill ... your career can also be corralled and tamed. It takes the deliberate use of just one word.
