Is Your Practice Taking New Patients? - Help Us Keep Our Webpage Up to Date
With practices opening and closing all across WNC, patients are often trying to figure out which primary care practices are taking new patients.  WCMS frequently gets phone calls asking about this.

We refer patients to this webpage and send any updates/changes to kristina@mywcms.org.

Please include the following info for the webpage:
  • Practice name
  • Phone number
  • Are you accepting new patients?
  • What payers do you accept?
  • Other notes

STATE NEWS

Legislative Action Alert from NCMS: Now is the Time to Contact Your Legislator
With the recent developments at the General Assembly on Medicaid reform it is more important now than ever to contact your legislator and let them know what essential elements must be included in the legislative reform package. Watch a video in which North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) Director of Legislative Relations Chip Baggett explains the latest news. The top priorities to raise with your representative are:
  • Require all Medicaid risk-bearing entities and providers be connected to the health information exchange to ensure the real-time, free flowing exchange of cost and quality data.
  • Require Medicaid risk-bearing entities be subject to the same patient and provider protections afforded to those in the commercial insurance arena.
  • Require cost saving and efficiency programs currently being utilized are employed during the transition to any new system of care delivery.
Read more about the physician and patient protections NCMS is lobbying hard to incorporate into legislation. Take action now.

Preventing Burnout: Finding Joy in Medicine
"Time in the bank: A Stanford plan to save doctors from burnout" - Shared by WCMS Board Member, Dr. Samantha Read-Smith from the
Washington Post

PALO ALTO, Calif. - It was just before noon on a recent Friday when Greg Gilbert, an emergency room physician at Stanford Hospital, made it home from another of what would be six overnight shifts in a row. Bleary-eyed and hungry, the divorced single dad was thinking about how to squeeze in a nap before it was time to pick up his three kids from his ex later that afternoon.
