LOCAL NEWS

DocbookMD is now open to non-physician members of the care team

More than 16,500 physicians throughout 32 states are now using DocbookMD, a HIPAA-secure messaging application for smartphones and tablets. DocbookMD has historically only been accessible to physicians. Today, due to physician demand for secure communication with their medical staff, the platform is being opened up to all members of the care team, with the physician at the center of the communication. An exclusive HIPAA-secure smartphone platform designed by and for physicians,
DocbookMD allows physicians and their care team to share patient information and collaborate with their medical colleagues. DocbookMD is offered through WCMS to our members. To register or for more information on DocBookMD, please visit www.docbookmd.com or read more on our website.
WCMS highlights local innovative physician practices
WCMS staff interviewed Dr. Steve North and his My Health-e-Schools Program that provides children at schools in Mitchell and Yancey counties access to healthcare through innovative telemedicine.  The technology is based on high-definition videoconferencing using specially equipped stethoscopes and cameras so that a centrally located health care provider can examine students at multiple schools without traveling.  Watch for the full article in Vital Signs soon.
WCMS Foundation to help the uninsured obtain insurance
WCMS has been approved by HHS to become a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) organization. We did this in order to identify and assist eligible Project Access patients (about 30% of our current patient population) with enrolling in the Marketplace starting on October 1, determining eligibility for subsidies, and obtaining health insurance when possible. We next plan to hire a 1.0 FTE bilingual Certified Application Counselor, who will begin working with Project Access patients as soon as possible. We thank Mission's Community Benefits for allowing us to redirect some funding to hire the CAC for one year.

Pardee, Mission set to open Fletcher campus

Riding the momentum of a strong financial year, an extended agreement with UNC Health Care and a top ranking in surgeries, Pardee Hospital is set to launch new services at the Mission Pardee Health Campus in three weeks. Read full article at Hendersonville Lightning.
WCMS hits the road visiting physician practices across WNC
As part of our "high-touch" strategy, Donna Wiedrich, Director of Member Services, has been traveling throughout the region visiting with physicians to find out what challenges they are facing and how WCMS can help.  In addition, she has been delivering new physician welcome packets to all new physicians in the region.  Donna's new responsibilities will be focused primarily on physician recruitment and building relationships with physicians across the region.  If you have a new physician in your practice or would like to schedule a meeting with Donna, please contact her at donna@mywcms.org.
