LOCAL NEWS 
Lewis Rathbun, MD turning 100!
Local retired physician Lewis Rathbun, MD will become a centenarian  on October 12th, 2013. As family members prepare for a special celebration they are asking for any stories, memories or photographs of Dr. Rathbun. If you have anything to share please contact Dr. Rathbun's daughter Alexandra Keifer at alexandrakiefer@yahoo.com or mail to her at 1092 High Vista Dr., Mills River, NC 28759.

Dr. Rathbun graduated from Harvard Medical School as an OB/GYN in 1939. A few years later, in 1944, he joined and served as a Lieutenant in the Naval Medical Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. Dr. Rathbun came to Asheville in September of 1947 as the first specialist to practice obstetrics and gynecology. He retired in 1985.

Mission Hospital Layoffs & Budget Cuts 

The president and CEO of Mission Hospital says the hospital will have to cut 70 jobs, but other cost cutting measures will eliminate the need to lay off as many as 500 other positions.
