ACA Employer Mandate Delayed For One Year
|
The Obama administration's decision to delay the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate for one year means the federal government will not collect $4 billion in penalties in 2014, according to Congressional Budget Office estimates. Under the provision, employers with at least 50 full-time workers must provide affordable health coverage or face a $2,000 fine per worker after the first 30 workers. Last week, the Obama administration announced it would not enforce the mandate until 2015 in order to give businesses more time to comply with the law. The announcement took many health policy experts by surprise and has prompted some observers to raise concerns about implementation of the law.
