Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) Safe Opioid Prescribing in Medical Practices Part 1 and 2 (4/10, 4/16)

Description:

Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) training is a newly required

element in Safe Opioid Prescribing. It is intended to equip prescribers with

the knowledge, skills, and behaviors they need to implement evidence-based

safe prescribing practices for extended-release and long-acting (ER/LA)

opioid analgesics along with other medications used for treating pain.

Women In Medicine - April Social (4/18)

It's hard to believe, but the Women In Medicine section of the WCMS is a year old! Join us for wine/refreshments and hors d'oeuvres as WIM celebrates its first anniversary on Thursday, April, 18th at the Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar (Upstairs) in the Grove Arcade in Downtown Asheville. A Bridge To Health - And Away From ER Overuse

Nationally, between 13.7 percent and 27.1 percent of all emergency department visits are non-urgent, according to a 2010 Health Affairs study, leading to about $4.4 billion in health care costs.

 

North Carolina's Pardee Memorial Hospital, located in Hendersonville, has joined forces with local physicians in an attempt to reverse this cycle - and program data suggest the plan is working. Continue reading at Kaiser Health News.

Mission to acquire WNC's only neonatology practice

Mission Hospital plans to take over Asheville Neonatology practice and employ its five physicians, another step in the hospital's recent and vigorous expansion moves.

 

Asheville Neonatology, which has staffed Mission's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on a non-exclusive basis since the unit opened in 1978, is Western North Carolina's only neonatal practice. Read full article in the Asheville Citizen-Times.
