Honor the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1/19) 

On Saturday, January 19, 2013 citizens of Asheville and Buncombe County will celebrate our community's 32nd annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast to commemorate the life and work of Dr. King.


Join Us!
WCMS has purchased a limited number of tickets for this engaging event, which we are offering to physician members (and one guest) on a first-come-first-served basis. Join your local elected officials, physician colleagues, and fellow community leaders at the MLK Prayer Breakfast (the largest such gathering in the country.)

WCMS Awarded $20, 000 Janirve Legacy Fund Grant  

The Western Carolina Medical Society's Western NC Interpreter Network Henderson/Transylvania County Expansion project was awarded a $20,000.00 grant funded through the Connestee Falls Endowment Fund, Dogwood Charitable Endowment Fund, and Janirve Legacy Fund of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina for the 2013 fiscal year. The first two deaths from flu in North Carolina in the 2012-13 flu season have been reported

The first two deaths from flu in North Carolina in the 2012-13 flu season have been reported, state health officials said. WSOCTV, November 29, 2012. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services said both victims were adults from the Triad region. One was at a higher risk for complications from the flu because of advanced age and pre-existing medical conditions, but the other had no known risk factors for severe flu illness. Neither had received the flu vaccine, officials said. Read more
