WCMS welcomes newcomer physicians and families to WNC |
 | Newcomer Families |
WCMS held its Annual Newcomers' Picnic last Sunday, October 14th at Claxton Farm with over 130 in attendance, including physician families, sponsors, and WCMS staff. A good time was had by all at the picturesque Weaverville countryside owned by retired physicians, Porter and Martha Claxton, who made a special guest appearance at the event. WCMS Association President Dr. Cindy Brown welcomed the Newcomers in attendance at this year's picnic: Drs. Annette Beyea, Brie Folkner, Brian Garvin, Thomas German, Tom Large, Josh Leitner, Rich Marlar and Nathan Rhodes - not in attendance but whose wife, Veena, came in his place. Entertainment included horse-drawn wagon rides, and live music by local Asheville country band, Deep River, with pumpkin decorating, face painting and tattoos for the little ones. A campfire complete with marshmallow roast and s'mores rounded out the evening. A special thanks to this year's Newcomers' Picnic Sponsors: Claxton Farm/M7, Mission Health, Mountain Sleep, Dixon Hughes Goodman, Van Winkle Law Firm, Gentiva Home Health, Johnson Price Sprinkle, PA, TD Bank, Parsec Financial, Financial Advisor Karen Clerici, and Medical Mutual. Practices sponsoring their Newcomer Physicians were Asheville Anesthesia Associates and Asheville Endocrinology Associates. Click here to see full list of 2012 Newcomers.

Contact your US representative and senators about SGR! |
Members of Congress may be primarily focused on their re-election campaigns, but they can't ignore another fast approaching deadline for the flawed sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. Unless Congress acts, physicians again face a cut in Medicare reimbursement payments on Jan. 1. This deadline and repeal of the SGR is just the first step towards the larger goal of comprehensive reform of the Medicare physician payment system.
Physicians MUST lead the way on Medicare physician payment reform. Be an active part of this critical effort and call (800) 833-6354 or click here to email your members of Congress today. |
From the AMA: Innovator Committee publishes payment reform paper |
"Physician Payment Reform: Early Innovators Share What They Have Learned" is a new resource developed by the AMA Innovators Committee, an advisory group of physicians with hands-on experience in the development and management of new delivery and payment models. It describes the Innovators' own experiences in implementing value-based payment systems that reward high-quality, high-value patient care and offers practical guidance to physicians on how to customize models to their practice setting and service mix. This resource document and an earlier paper on delivery reform are accessible online. |
