If you haven't had time to study the 5 Hawaii State Constitutional amendments and their affects, here's what you'll see on the ballot and my take on its ramifications; economically and politically.

Amendment 1-Judiciary:  Shall the judicial selection commission, when presenting a list of nominees to the governor or the chief justice to fill a vacancy in the office of the chief justice, supreme court, intermediate appellate court, circuit courts or district courts, be required, at the same time, to disclose that list to the public?

Amendment 2-Bonds:  Shall the State be authorized to issue special purpose revenue bonds and use the proceeds from the bonds to assist agricultural enterprises on any type of land, rather than only important agricultural lands?

VOTE NO:  This will directly benefit the Big Food industries (Cattle, Dairy, Animal support crops that can qualify for the Bonds. This Amendment as well as Amendment 5 about repairing reservoir and dam facilities, go hand in hand with bolstering Non-Sustainable Industries WITH LOW-COST WATER, LAND LEASES, REFRIGERATION AND SHIPPING. Don't get suckered in by all the Million$ poured into touchy-feely ads on TV by The Local Food Coalition... talking about resources used to grow food for humans... but in reality only the Big Food Farms for animals can qualify for the Bonds. The livestock DRINK UP 11,000 GALLONS OF WATER PER YEAR PER ANIMAL, and will probably be shipped to the mainland as food.)

Amendment 3-Judiciary:  Shall the mandatory retirement age for all state court justices and judges be increased from seventy to eighty years of age?

VOTE NO:  Sorry. Though I have no vengeance against anyone over age 70, I feel that there's a big gap between the boomers and millennials, who need to get their foot in the door of the courts as well.

Amendment 4-Education: Shall the appropriation of public funds be permitted for the support or benefit of private early childhood education programs, as provided by law, to help the State meet its goal of providing an early learning system for the children of Hawaii?"

VOTE NO:  Public funding for private early childhood education (which would include religious schools) forever would be too costly. Reverse the law passed by Gov. Abercrombie on 5/1/14 that changed the acceptable age of kindergarteners from 4 to 5 years on or before July 31st versus by the end of the year so more kindergarteners can attend public schools.

Amendment 5-Bond:  Shall the State be authorized to issue special purpose revenue bonds and use the proceeds from the bonds to offer loans to qualifying dam and reservoir owners to improve their facilities to protect public safety and provide significant benefits to the general public as important water resources?

VOTE NO:  See Amendment 2 above. Also, governmental control of the use of the water should be addressed if bonds are to be issued to repair the dams and reservoirs.
