REGIONAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNCIL ADDRESSES ADDICTION ON CAPE COD | |
December 17, 2015 - The Barnstable County Regional Substance Abuse Council (RSAC) has released a community resource guide and fact sheet prior to the 12/17/15 screening of the documentary about heroin use in our region. Where We Stand: Addiction on Cape Cod addresses addiction in our region, where individuals and families can get help, and raises awareness about the collaboration between RSAC representatives, town coalitions, people in recovery, and health and human services agencies that are working together to actively address substance use on Cape Cod. The document is also available on the Barnstable County Department of Human Services website at www.bchumanservices.net.
We know Cape Cod is not unique in regards to substance use or heroin addiction. This is a public health crisis across Massachusetts and throughout the United States," stated Cheryl Bartlett, Co-Chair of the RSAC and Executive Director of the Office of Community Health at Cape Cod Healthcare. HOMELESS PERSONS MEMORIAL | |
Service at Federated Church in Hyannis Honors Homeless on the Longest Night of the Year - December 21, 2015.
Annual Homeless Persons Memorial Day Service begins on the Hyannis Village Green at 5:00 PM with a service led by Dan McCullough of Homeless Outreach Team M25. With bagpipes, songs, candles and prayers, the Cape Cod community will once again join together to honor the homeless men and women who died last year. The Homeless Persons Memorial Service is an opportunity to acknowledge the passing of people who may have no family to honor and celebrate the successes they achieved and the friendships they made. CAPE COD SYNAGOGUE TO PROVIDE CHRISTMAS DINNER TO
COMMUNITY-IN-NEED

For over 60 years, Cape Cod Synagogue, driven by the mission of Project Ezra - an independent nonprofit grass roots organization serving the Jewish elderly on New York's Lower East Side, prepares and serves a warm Christmas dinner to the homeless, isolated, and population-in-need on Cape Cod. The Cape Cod Synagogue extends the invitation to any community members (Jewish or interfaith) who wish to help and become part of this annual tradition. Read more.....

ADDITIONAL FUEL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR ELIGIBLE DENNIS RESIDENTS | |
If you have been approved for fuel assistance and live in the Town of Dennis, you may qualify for extra help for heat utilities up to $300.00, or a tank of oil for consumers of all ages from the Town of Dennis. Read eligibility requirements.
If you have not applied for the State/Federal Fuel Assistance through South Shore Community Action in Plymouth and you feel you need fuel assistance, please call Marion Prendergast at 508/694-2004 to schedule an appointment.

CAPE COD NEIGHBORHOOD SUPPORT COALITION HAS MOVED | |
Cape Cod Neighborhood Support Coalition has relocated to 805 Teaticket Highway, Teaticket, MA 02536. The mailing address is P.O. Box 2395,Teaticket, MA 02536. The phone number will remain the same - 508/771-4336.
The Coalition will continue to support families across the Cape and Islands and this move will create new relationship with Upper Cape colleagues and families.

CAPE COD HEALTHCARE FORUMS FOR HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS

Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital will hold two forums in January for health and human service organizations to provide input and feedback on the health needs of the residents they serve in Barnstable County.
Every three years, the hospitals conduct a community health needs assessment for Barnstable County. To ensure that accurate health needs are identified and prioritized, it is critical to have input from the general public, public health experts and health and human service organizations that serve vulnerable populations in our community.
Please attend one of the following forums, your input is vital:

COMMUNITY IMPACT AGENDA AND RFP

The Community Impact Agenda outlines four new funding categories: Health, Education, Financial Stability and Housing. Within each category you will find specific goals and focus areas. If you are a nonprofit organization offering programs that advance the community issues we have identified, then we encourage you to apply.
Grants requests should range from $5,000 to $50,000 with a total of approximately $600,000 in funding to be distributed. Organizations may submit a request in up to two of the four categories. Please read the application package carefully. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at grants@uwcapecod.org.
This RFP represents the beginning of our journey to Community Impact. We appreciate your patience and support as we embark on this path. It's an honor to be able to support the nonprofit organizations who do so much to enhance the lives of our residents!

BREAKFAST WITH THE CAPE COD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS | |
Tour the new Bridgewater State University Cape Cod campus, network with members of the community and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, hear from school officials, enjoy a light breakfast on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 8-9:30 AM. HOLIDAY LIGHT RECYCLING DRIVE | |
Beginning December 5th through January 16th, AmeriCorps Cape Cod will hold a collection for old, broken, and unused holiday string lights. The aim is to collect the lights and recycling them instead of having them thrown in the trash and sent to the landfills. People who donate their lights will have a chance to sign up to be entered into a raffle to win a strand of energy efficient LED string lights donated by Cape Light Compact.

Growing to meet the need.... the Center's shelter can only house four families at a time and each month 45-60 families are unable to be provided emergency shelter because of limited space. To meet the demand, the Cape Cod Center for Women is purchasing a larger building and expand capacity from 4 to 10 bedrooms. The Center is launching "Shelter from the Storm: A New Beginning" capital campaign in January in support of this project.
The Cape Cod Center Administrative Office has moved to 802 MacArthur Boulevard, Pocasset, MA. The main telephone number and mailing address remain the same: P.O. COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OF CAPE COD RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS DENTAL SOCIETY FOUNDATION | | Mashpee - Community Health Center of Cape Cod received an Expanding Access to Dental Care grant in the amount of $10,900 from the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) Foundation. The funds received will be used for dental equipment and software, allowing the Health Center to provide affordable dental care to more patients annually. Read more... |
GOSNOLD ON CAPE COD ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT | | Gosnold on Cape Cod, a nationally recognized addiction and mental health treatment providers announced an addition to the organization's management team to help meet the crowing needs of the addiction crisis. Richard Mahoney has been appointed as the new Director of Development and will help lead Gosnold's multi-layered fundraising efforts. CAPE COD HOARDING TASK FORCE | |
Meetings of the Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force are held the second Thursday of every other month. Upcoming dates are: October 8 & December 10 at the Dennis Police Department, 90 Bob Crowell Rd., South Dennis. These meetings are geared towards professionals who work with individuals with hoarding disorder in any capacity. SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS

This is an integrated national outreach effort to increase awareness and use of the Veterans Crisis Line, support and promote broader VA suicide prevention efforts, and promote help-seeking behaviors among Veterans at risk of suicide and other mental health problems. |
