SEPTEMBER IS RECOVERY MONTH
National Recovery Month - September 2015

National Recovery Month (Recovery Month) is an annual observance celebrated every September since 1989. In September, and throughout the year, Recovery Month spreads the message that:

* Behavioral health is essential to health
* Prevention works
* Treatment is effective
* People recover

Every September, SAMHSA sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use issues and celebrate the people who recover.

This year's theme, "Join the Voices for Recovery: Visible, Vocal, Valuable!" highlights the value of peer support by educating, mentoring, and helping others. It invites individuals in recovery and their support systems to be active change agents in communities, and in civic and advocacy engagements.

For more information, please visit www.RecoveryMonth.gov.
CAPE COD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES

The Council of Churches is asking for assistance from clergy members across Cape Cod to help educate the faith community on addiction and recovery - what it means, what it entails, and how it is possible to find help.  We hope that you will participate throughout the month of September, indeed, throughout the year.  For ideas on how to participate in Recovery Month, please read more below.

Campaign for Change: Harnessing the Power of Effective Communication
September 18, 2015

What difference does it make that 1 in 4 teens have misused prescription drugs in their lifetime? That more people die from opioid overdoses than car crashes in Massachusetts? Or that your coalition has reduced underage drinking by 30% over the past 10 years?

On September 18, 2015, the Massachusetts Technical Assistance Partnership for Prevention (MassTAPP) will host a statewide conference for substance abuse coalitions and community representatives titled Campaign for Change: Harnessing the Power of Effective Communication to help you answer these questions and examine how communications can enhance your prevention efforts.

Coalitions funded by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS) are strongly encouraged to attend.
