BARNSTABLE COUNTY SEEKS COORDINATOR FOR MASSACHUSETTS SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION COLLABORATIVE   

Department of Human Services Seeks Coordinator for Massachusetts Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative (SAPC) in Barnstable County 

 

Barnstable County, through its Chief Procurement Officer and on behalf of the Department of Human Services, seeks a qualified contractor to assist the Department in coordinating the "Massachusetts Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative" (SAPC) in Barnstable County.  Proposals will be received at the Superior Court House, Office of the County Commissioners, Purchasing Department, 3195 Main Street, P.O. Box 427, Barnstable, MA 02630, on or before August 11, 2015 at 10:00AM.   No exceptions will be allowed. Specifications may be obtained at http://purchasing.barnstablecounty.org.

 

The purpose of the Massachusetts Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative (SAPC) grant program is to implement local policy, practice, systems, and/or environmental changes to prevent underage drinking and other drug use.  Grant funds will be used to plan and support initiatives that benefit the region.  Additionally, this program provides support for groups of municipalities to enter into formal, long term agreements to share resources and coordinate activities, in order to increase the number and capacity of municipalities across the Commonwealth addressing these issues. This program emphasizes the integration of SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) model into overall prevention systems, to ensure a consistent data-driven planning process focused on implementing effective and sustainable strategies and interventions. 

 

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS) has awarded Barnstable County a one year contract for the period July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016. The contract has options to renew through 2022.

Pine Oaks Village Phase III is sponsored by Mid-Cape Church Homes, Inc.  Phase III is an apartment community designed for the elderly 62 and over.  Phase III is subsidized by the HUD PRAC 202 Program.  Pine Oaks Village Phase III is a beautifully landscaped community close to beaches, shops, doctors, churches, police & fire stations and public transportation.  All units are ground level.

Residents pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income towards rent.  Phase III income limits: 1 person - $30,650, 2 persons - $35,000.  Interested parties should call 508/432-9623 or write to the address above.
SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR SUICIDE ATTEMPT SURVIVORS   

"A Second Chance". an eight-week support program for suicide attempt survivors offers a safe, non-judgemental place for people to talk about the feelings that led them to attempt suicide, to talk about he impact their attempt had on their lives, and to build resilience by identifying resources and coping strategies for the future.  Read more...

HUMOR FOR HUMANITY   

Come see Jimmy Tingle perform his "Humor for Humanity" comedy show each Sunday evening in Wellfleet and help support Cape Cod non-profits including the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.  Each Sunday evening through September 6, Jimmy performs his one-man show in Wellfleet at the 1st Congregational Church, UCC at 200 Main Street, free parking available.

 

When you purchase tickets for the show mention the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod and the agency will receive a $5.00 donation for each $25.00 ticket sold.  You can purchase tickets online, scroll down to purchase tickets through AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.

HEALTH INSURANCE ENROLLMENT SPECIALIST - CACCI   

Community Action Committee of Cape & Islands is hiring an Enrollment Specialist for its Access to Health Insurance & Care Program.

CAPE COD HEALTHCARE FY2016 ANNUAL STRATEGIC GRANT CYCLE   
Cape Cod Healthcare will release their FY2016 Community Benefits Annual Strategic Grants Cycle Request for Proposals (RFP) on Monday, August 3, 2015.  Please visit Cape Cod Healthcare's website for additional information and required proposal attachment.  Proposals are due September 14, 2015.

Town of Barnstable Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG)

2014 Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report (CAPER)

 

The Town of Barnstable received approximately $300,000 in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) each year to address the goals and objectives of the Town of Barnstable Consolidated Plan for 2010-2014.

 

The Draft CAPER is available for review on the Town website or in the Growth Management Department, 367 Main St, 3rd Floor, Hyannis, MA between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  Copies may also be emailed or mailed upon request by calling 508/862-4702 or emailing Kathleen.girouard@town.Barnstable.ma.us.

RFP: OUT OF SCHOOL PROGRAM SERVICES   
As part of the workforce development system, the Workforce Investment Board is seeking services for low income youth between the ages of 16 and 24 years of age who are out of school for the FY2016-2018 programs years.  The allocation for FY2016 is $294,672.

GOSNOLD ON CAPE COD LAUNCHES

"REST" GROUP   

Starting Tuesday, August 11, Gosnold will be launching their new REST Group facilitated by Jessica Jensen, MA, CMHC from 5:30 - 7:00 PM.  Program will continue until September 29th.  Gosnold will provide counseling for individuals aged 25 and older who are experiencing stress, anxiety or depression.  The program will teach relaxation techniques, ways to improve your physical health and strategies for overcoming negative life events.  The group is covered by Mass Health or is a $25 flat fee per person.  To register please call 508/539-1171.
          CAPE COD HOARDING TASK FORCE   

The next meeting of the Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force meeting is scheduled for August 13, 2015, 9:30 - 11:30 AM at the Dennis Police Station, 90 Bob Crowell Rd., South Dennis.  Guest speaker will be William Vaughan, PhD of Nauset Environmental Services to discuss indoor environmental concerns. 

 

Meetings of the Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force are held the second Thursday of every other month.  Upcoming dates are: August 13, October 8 & December 10 at the Dennis Police Department, 90 Bob Crowell Rd., South Dennis.  These meetings are geared towards professionals who work with individuals with hoarding disorder in any capacity.  For more information email ino@hoardingcapecod.org or visit the Cape Cod Hoarding Task Force website.

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OF CAPE COD - WALK-IN SERVICES IN BOURNES OFFICE   

Community Health Center of Cape Cod now offers Walk-in services at their Bourne location at 123 Waterhouse Road. Walk-in services are for enrolled patients of Community Health Center of Cape Cod, and are for urgent needs such as flu, cough, cold, sore throats and other minor illness or injury. Walk-In services are available on Mondays from 8:30am - 4:30pm and on Fridays from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.    

 

The Health Center currently offers Walk-in services at their Mashpee location at 107 Commercial Street as well. Walk-in services for patients are on Mondays - Thursdays from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, Fridays from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. In addition to the offices in Bourne and Mashpee, the Health Center has a location in Falmouth at 210 Jones Road.

          NEWS FROM WE CAN CENTER

WE CAN will host an information session from 5:30 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Harwich Community Center, with details on two different personal development programs, each led by a professional certified coach (PCC), to be offered in September and October to Cape women. Attendees at the information session on September 1 will have the first opportunity to sign up for either program below. This information session will introduce participants to both workshop leaders and they will describe their workshop in detail.  This will help participants decide which program is for them!

 

From Surviving to Thriving with Maggie French is a popular eight week program designed to bring your "self" out from behind what holds you back. It will be held in Harwich Port on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 PM starting on September 30.

 

Design Your Life with Kathy Robbins is a new eight week workshop to be held in Barnstable on Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 PM starting October 8.

CAPE & ISLANDS SUICIDE PREVENTION COALITION REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY   
The next general membership meeting of the Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition is scheduled for Thursday, September 10th from 11:15 AM - 12:45 PM in Rooms 11/12 of the Barnstable Superior Courthouse, 3195 Main St., Barnstable Village.  Meeting will be preceded by the annual ribbon ceremony remembering those lost to suicide and supporting the friends and families left behind.  The ceremony will take place on the lawn of the courthouse weather permitting or inside if inclement weather. All are welcome to attend.

BARNSTABLE COUNTY HOME CONSORTIUM NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING & PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD   

The Barnstable County HOME Consortium has completed its 2015 Fiscal Year (July 1, 2014- June 30, 2015) utilizing U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Federal Fiscal Year 2014 HOME Program funds. The HOME Program was awarded $404,552 to carry out the goals and objectives set forth in the 2010- 2014 Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan for this period. A draft Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report (CAPER), outlining the year's accomplishments and challenges is available for public comment.

ACCESS TO HEALTH INSURANCE IS STILL AVAILABLE:  You can apply and enroll in MassHealth at any time during the year. If you are newly eligible for ConnectorCare Plans (subsidized public health insurance*), you can apply and enroll at any time during the year.  You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you have Qualifying Life Events, such as a marriage, having a baby, losing a job, new Massachusetts resident, etc.

SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS

Over 800,000 people worldwide end their lives annually leaving family and close friends who deeply feel the devastation of each loss.  Samaritans on Cape Cod & the Islands has survivor support groups in Falmouth and Hyannis to provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.  For more information contact the Samaritans office at Tel: 508/548-7999

VETERANS CRISIS HOTLINE

The Veterans Crisis Line (1-800-273-8255, Press 1) is available 24/7/365 to provide confidential counseling and referrals for Veterans and their families.  This is an integrated national outreach effort to increase awareness and use of the Veterans Crisis Line, support and promote broader VA suicide prevention efforts, and promote help-seeking behaviors among Veterans at risk of suicide and other mental health problems.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has designated Mass 2-1-1 as the official point of contact for receiving information during a time of crisis or weather emergency.
