| FOURTH ANNUAL OVERDOSE CANDLELIGHT VIGIL | |

Main Street, Hyannis - Village Green
This year the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod along with Parents Supporting Parents are holding their Fourth Annual Overdose Candlelight Vigil.
Beginning at 5:00 PM we will hold an Overdose Education class and will have Narcan on hand for those individuals who complete the training and who have a family member or friend that uses opiates.
At 6:00 PM the vigil will begin. Speaking at this years event will be our Dept. of Public Health Commissioner Cheryl Bartlett, Patty Powers, sober coach and interventionist from " Intervention " on A&E, and Cathy Gilmore, a parent who lost her son to addiction and who is currently lobbying the state for "Anthony's Law" which will require hospitals to hold individuals for 24 hours following an overdose.

Topic: Latest Trends in Prescription Drug Misuse
The MassTAPP Southeast Regional Meeting will be held on Martha's Vineyard (Oak Bluffs), Friday, September 26th from Noon to Two.
We will feature Michael Angeli, PharmD, BCPP from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy for a roundtable discussion about: The latest trends in prescription drug misuse, Mass Prescription Drug Monitoring Program and engaging Pharmacy in Prevention work. Join us for a great day of information and networking. We will also be featuring some of the great things going on in region, join us and make a day of it!

Statewide Substance Abuse Prevention Conference

On October 30, 2014, the Massachusetts Technical Partnership for Prevention (MassTAPP) will host a Statewide Substance Abuse Prevention Conference for coalitions and community representatives.
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Rodney Wambeam of the University of Wyoming, will address the complexities of evaluating environmental strategies, and the lunch plenary session will address the issue of stigma. There will also be a number of breakout sessions on topics such as opioid overdose prevention, prescription drug misuse prevention, policy and practice change, evaluation and data collection, cultural and linguistic responsiveness, partnerships and sustainability, youth development, and many more.

STUDENTS ACHIEVING RECOVERY TOGETHER
| |  What Happened Here: The Untold Story of Addiction on Cape Cod

Cape Cod Community College
Students Achieving Recovery Together (START) proudly presents the documentary film debut of What Happened Here: The Untold Story of Addiction on Cape Cod. A full length documentary film that is telling the stories of addicts, families, law enforcement, clinicians, and community leaders who are affected by addiction and recovery on Cape Cod.
The documentary will debut on Friday, September 26 at the Cape Cod Community College, Tilden Arts Center. Tickets for general admission are $10 proceeds are to benefit the Cape Cod Community College Foundation - Recovery Student Scholarship.

| FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION NETWORK | | Fall Prevention Education and Awareness Campaign

The Freedom from Addiction Network is hosting Ben Cort as part of their Fall Prevention Education and Awareness Campaign on September 11, 2014 at Cape Cod Community College, Science Building, Lecture Hall B. The doors will open at 5:00 PM for light refreshments/meet and greet and the event will from 5:30-6:30 PM, with a 15 minute question and answer.

Marijuana: Addiction, Mental Health, and Policy On Monday, September 22, 2014 there will be a panel presentation on the subject of marijuana at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. Panel members include Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse Nora Volkow, former United States Representative Patrick Kennedy, and President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine Stuart Gitlow.

| FROM REPRESENTATIVE HUNT'S OFFICE | | 
Rep. Hunt to appear on U.S. District Court panel discussing substance addiction
Representative Randy Hunt (R-Sandwich) will participate in a panel discussion at the John Joseph Moakley United States Federal Courthouse next Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. on the topic of opiate addiction in Massachusetts.
The event, entitled In Our Own Backyard: A Panel Discussion on the Opiate Epidemic in Massachusetts, features two panels, one focusing on policy with respect to individuals in Federal and state courts, prisons, probation and parole systems who have substance addictions and the other emphasizing addiction treatment options and access from practicing clinicians' points of view.
Rep. Hunt will appear with Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, Dr. Alexander Walley from Boston Medical Center, and U.S. District Court Judge Leo Soroki. RSVPs to the event can be made by sending an email to respond@map.uscourts.gov.

| FED UP! RALLY | | 
The FED UP! Coalition is a grass roots movement, comprised of passionate individuals and organizations advocating for an end to the epidemic of addiction and overdose deaths attributed to opioids (including heroin) and other prescription drugs.
Locally, Learn to Cope has joined the growing number of individuals and organizations that are mobilizing and marching to the White House this year, determined to get results.
This Rally is a call for immediate, coordinated and comprehensive federal action to end the epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose deaths. This epidemic has had a catastrophic impact on families and communities, and it has placed tremendous strain on our health care system, businesses, and local and state governments.

| RECOVERY MONTH 2014 | |  September is Recovery Month!
National Recovery Month is a national observance that educates Americans on the fact that addiction treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life.
In its 25th year, Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders.
This year's theme,"Join the Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out," encourages people to openly speak up about mental and substance use disorders and the reality of recovery, and promotes ways individuals can use to recognize behavioral health issues and reach out for help.
Recovery Month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.

| BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROVIDERS COALITION | |  Cape and Islands Behavioral Health Summit
October 3, 2014 - 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Resort and Conference Center - Hyannis The Behavioral Health Providers Coalition of Cape Cod invites you to attend the 2nd annual Cape and Islands Behavioral Health Summit. The focus of the summit this year will be co-occurring disorders. Continuing education credits and CMEs will be available.

| GOSNOLD FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS | | 
The Gosnold Reaching Out program is a resource for family members and loved ones affected by addiction. It assists the family at all stages of addiction through education, intervention, and support.
Information and Education Forums help family members gain a basic understanding of the signs and symptoms of addiction, treatment options, and stages of recovery. An educated and supportive family has a positive impact on treatment outcomes.

| SELF-HELP HIGHLIGHTS | |  Learn to Cope
Learn to Cope is a support group for parents, family members, spouses, and caregivers who have a family member who is addicted to opiates, alcohol, or other drugs.
Learn to Cope offers experienced facilitators, resources, informational material, guest speakers (in long term recovery or professionals in the field), overdose education, and Narcan enrollment at all weekly meetings.
Weekly meetings are held on Tuesdays 7:00-8:30 PM at the Yarmouth Police Station, One Brad Erickson Way. For more information call (508) 738-5148 or visit their website.
Parents Helping Parents  Parents Supporting Parents is a group of people who have come together as parents and family members coping and dealing with children/loved one's addiction.
Their mission is to support, strengthen, and educate one another as they share their lives. Their goal is to help their loved ones find and live in recovery, and for all members to live a healthy lifestyle.
Weekly meetings are held on Monday 6:30-8:30 PM at Alchemy Farm in Falmouth. To learn more, view the Parents Supporting Parents Facebook page. Mothers Helping Mothers
Mothers Helping Mothers is a support group for women struggling with the emotional difficulties associated with addiction and recovery during the pregnant and postpartum phases of life.
Free childcare is provided during the meetings by The Children's Study Home. Anyone planning on attending the meeting and needing childcare is asked to call ahead. All ages are welcome.
Weekly meetings are held every Tuesday 7:30-9:00 PM at the John Wesley Methodist Church in Falmouth at 270 Gifford Street. For more information, contact Deborah at (774) 392-0446 or Danielle at (508) 209-7533.
|  Alateen
Alateen is a fellowship of young Al-Anon members, usually teenagers, whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking.
There are two regular meetings run by Cape Cod Alateen:
Wednesday - 7:00-8:00 PM in S. Dennis: Church of the Nazarene, 209 Upper County Rd.
Friday - 7:30 - 8:45 PM in Cataumet: Cataumet Methodist Church, 1091 County Rd.
