State Governors Meet to Discuss Surge in Overdoses
On Tuesday, June 17, Governor Deval Patrick convened a meeting of New England's state governors to discuss a regional collaboration to combat opioid abuse.
One portion of their discussion focused on the Online Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). The governors reported that they will explore sharing information from the PMP across the region in order to help curb practices such as doctor shopping.
A working group composed of high-level state officials will also be formed to build the framework for sharing prescription data and to make treatment more accessible.
For more information on the governor's meeting, view a news article. For more information on the Massachusetts Online Prescription Monitoring Program, view the website.

Substance-Exposed Infants: State Responses to the Problem
The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare (NCSACW) and SAMHSA have released a review and analysis of States' policies regarding prenatal exposure to alcohol and other drugs. Massachusetts was one of the ten states selected for an in-depth review.
The guide's purpose is to help local, state, and tribal governments to gain a better understanding of current policy and practice in place at the state level that address substance-exposed infants (SEIs) and to identify opportunities for strengthening interagency efforts in this area.
