NEWS FROM THE LEGISLATURE
House and Senate Budgets
The FY 2015 budgets for the Massachusetts House and Senate are now being finalized on Beacon Hill.  There are a number of amendments important to the substance abuse field.

In the House, the Interagency Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention will be changed to a standing commission of the Commonwealth.  The ASSIST (Addiction/Sobriety Solutions through Increased Substance Treatment) Act was also included in the House budget, which will create a commission to map out long-term strategies for dealing with treatment versus incarceration.

In the Senate, the FY 2015 state budget was released yesterday, May 14.  There will be a number of recommendations coming from the Senate Special Committee on Substance Abuse based upon the contents of the budget.

Finally, on Tuesday, May 13, the Senate unanimously approved the passage of "An Act to Increase Opportunities for Long-Term Substance Abuse Recovery".  The bill will now be voted on in the House of Representatives.  For more information on this legislation, view article on the bills passing.
