HOPE DEMENTIA & ALZHEIMER'S SERVICES ANNOUNCES MUSIC & CONVERSATIONS SUPPORT GROUPS | |
Hope Dementia & Alzheimer's Services, part of the HopeHealth family of services and formerly known as Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, announces its 2013 music & conversations group schedule for people with memory impairment and their care partners. We are grateful to The Local Cultural Councils on Cape Cod who continue to fund this program for our community.
Despite memory loss, our ability to respond to art and music can still be appreciated on an emotional level and can be a gateway to past stories and memories. Music has been successfully used to facilitate conversation and connectedness among people with memory impairment. The Music & Conversations program invites people with memory impairment and their care partners to bond with their peers through discussion and positive reinforcement. This promotes a sense of active involvement while reducing stress.
The groups are led by trained music facilitators who are sensitive to the special needs of those with dementia. Denya LeVine, one our facilitators for the program this year, is a classically trained violinist who travelled the world learning ethnic fiddle music that she shares with delighted multigenerational audiences. Her unique style and ability to sing in three languages helps people connect with each other through music. Click here for locations and schedules
