New ACRYLITE® Resist AG 100 for vehicle glazing offers great freedom of design, low weight and the option of integrating a variety of functions.

At the recent FAKUMA tradeshow, Evonik Industries presented a new specialty molding compound ACRYLITE® Resist AG 100 for manufacturing vehicle glazing. ACRYLITE® Resist AG 100 is the world's first PMMA specialty molding compound for this application. It offers; high resistance to UV light, weathering, is impact-modified and has up to 30 times the breaking strength of  glass. Our developers have succeeded in significantly reducing the reversible haze that occurs in conventional impact-modified products at very high and low temperatures.

Due to its balanced property profile, this new specialty molding compound meets all the relevant requirements for automotive glazing. It has undergone and passed all tests in line with ANSI Z26.1.  The molding compound can be processed  by all thermoplastic processes such as injection molding or injection compression molding of parts, or by extrusion with subsequent sheet thermoforming. ACRYLITE® Resist AG 100 offers almost unlimited freedom to designers when it comes to developing unusual designs with curved lines and pronounced edges.
 

ACRYLITE® Resist AG 100 additional benefit  is it's hard coating property. The material has an inherent resistance to UV light and weathering and the one-step coating is applied to increase the already abrasion resistance of  ACRYLITE®. Other thermoplastics that are less weather-resistant have to be protected by means of a two-step coating process, which entails higher costs and the subsequently applied UV-protection can impair the mechanical performance of the coating.
