A holiday message from Head of School, Dominique Velociter

With the year coming to a close and a new one beginning, we often marvel how our children have grown and progressed during the year. It is also the perfect time to reflect about our school, take stock of our progress and look forward to further growth.

20th annual Beaujolais Festival

On November 22, the ballroom at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet was transformed into a magnificent courtly space on the occasion of FASRI's 20th annual Beaujolais Festival. Our talented committee succeeded in conjuring the atmosphere of the masquerade, one of the most elegant and popular customs born during the Renaissance. The event was a tremendous success, grossing over $60,000. FASRI is deeply grateful to our committee, our generous donors and sponsors who made the evening possible and our spirited revelers for attending the event. It was a great opportunity to celebrate French culture while supporting our French dual-language program.

Mindfulness and the young mind

The Pre-K kids gather around Maitresse Isabelle Michaels in absolute quiet. She rings a chime and reminds them how to breathe mindfully as they listen to the fading sound. There are a few slight wiggles and sniffling of noses here and there, but for the most part they are actually doing it, a fact that might astound many parents. After almost 20 years at FASRI she has incorporated many techniques into her curriculum, such as meditation, drumming, yoga and discussion-based lessons. Click below for a glimpse inside the classroom.

A cocktail evening with master chef, Jacques Ppin

Emmy Award-winning chef, Jacques Ppin is best known from his popular PBS television series with Julia Child and his best-selling cookbooks. On November 15, he was FASRI's guest of honor at the pre-Beaujolais Festival patrons' cocktail event with donors, sponsors and board members at the home of Paul and Tiernan Boghosian. He was accompanied by his wife, Gloria, his daughter, Claudine, her husband Rolland and their daughter Shorey. Guests were able mingle with Monsieur Ppin, get their books autographed and even bid exclusive auction items. Ppin generously donated a limited edition book with an original drawing bound inside, as well as another drawing used as an illustration in one of his books.

NEASC certification: it's official!

Congratulations to all faculty and staff on our recent accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). We have received the certificate! The accreditation process for FASRI not only provided validation that the work we do meets with established criteria for the assessment of institutional quality, but it offered us the opportunity to focus on our areas of strength and gain perspective on ways we can improve. NEASC membership also situates our school within a powerful network of institutions on a regional and national level.
