Tardiness: A message from the Head of School

Dear Parents,

I am in the process of signing our students' report cards. Overall, I have been impressed by their progress this year and wish each of them the best of luck in our final term. Bravo, les élèves!

On the other hand, I have also noticed a concerning trend, especially in Cycle 3 and the Middle School: a rise in tardiness.

For the most part, I can see that our families do their best to get everyone here on time; most students have 0-3 tardies per trimester. But when I see some children coming late 20, or even 30 times in one term, I worry about the cumulative instruction time they are missing. Those minutes really do add up.

In this final term, I hope we can all work together to reduce lateness in our students. On our end, we plan to develop and implement a policy for students with more than five tardies per term. I ask that our families keep in mind the times our classes start (8:15 for Middle School, 8:30 for the rest) and organize themselves accordingly to arrive on time and ready to learn.

Please keep in mind: children need a few moments after arriving to arrange their belongings and settle into the routine. Do try to get them to school during their homeroom time to allow this process. Homerooms open for Middle School at 8:00, and at 8:15 for the others.

I will talk more about the importance of good attendance in the next Rue de l'Ecole, due out next week. Thank you for your collaboration on this issue.

Missing something?

Check the lost and found, across from the Main Office! There are a good number of children's coats, hats, and other miscellaneous items.

Child Outreach screenings around the corner

There will be a free Child Outreach Screenings for children in Pre-School, Pre-K, and Kindergarten on April 8 and 9. The program provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about other resources that are available in the community.

There are five components of the screening:

  • Developmental: movement, language, thinking, socialization, and behavior.
  • Speech: self-expression, articulation.
  • Hearing
  • Vision - a screening using an eye chart, probably very similar to the eye chart at your pediatrician's office.
  • Social/Emotional - this screening is a questionnaire that you are asked to fill out in helping us to determine the needs of your child, if any, in this area.

Permission slips will be sent home soon with your children.

Grandparents' Day is coming

Join us on Friday, April 12, 2013, from 8:15 - 10:00 AM for our annual Grandparents' Day! Special relatives are always welcome, too. We need your help in making the morning a success.

Send us grandparent contact information ASAP:
Please email Raissa (rmensah@fasri.org) with current email and/or mailing addresses for your child's grandparents and special relatives.

Volunteers needed: We need a few parents to help serve coffee and take pictures. Sign up with Raissa (rmensah@fasri.org.)

Merci!

Beaujolais

Looking for sponsors! Sponsoring the Festival is a great way to advertise a company and support the school. Please click here for details, or contact Louise Jakobson with any questions.

Wanted: a key volunteer! We need a volunteer to help out with the program book sales by managing the ads in the Beaujolais Festival's program book, working closely with the Advancement Office, and the Auction and Art Committees. Specifically, the volunteer will:
  • Follow up on potential leads passed by Advancement Office, Auction Committee and other volunteers.
  • Contact potential advertisers. When advertisements are confirmed, collect and relay all ad and payment information. Follow up if necessary.
No previous experience is needed, just an outgoing personality and an interest in communication. Time commitment represents a couple of hours a week during the summer and fall. You will meet wonderful parents and will gain experience while having fun. And you will be contributing in raising money for our school! Contact Stephanie Naudo at snaudo@gmail.com with any questions.

Send postcards to Kindergarten

Celine Cyr's Kindergarten class is learning about the countries of the world, and they would like your help!

There are so many different nationalities represented here at FASRI. If you could have a relative overseas (or across the borders!) send our Grande Section a postcard, or if you'd like to send one while traveling over April break, it would be a great way for them to explore new places.

Please address postcards to:
