Message from the Head of School

Given the recent loss of one of our community members, I wanted to share with you this article, "Helping Students Cope with Death," by Robert Evans, a clinical psychologist and educational consultant who has worked closely with me and FASRI for some time.

You can find Mr. Bedford's obituary and funeral mass details here. As I said earlier this week, my door is open should you have any concerns at this time or in the future. Merci.

Kind regards,

Dominique Velociter

Notes from the Main Office

Lockdown, fire, and evacuation drills

Each year, FASRI is required by the RI Department of Education to perform a certain number of emergency drills. These include standard fire drills as well as lockdowns and evacuations to the park. At first, some of these drills may be scary for new or young students, but after some time they become part of the routine.

Drills and other safety procedures will be discussed at tonight's School Forum (6:00 - 8:00 here at the school). We hope you will join us to learn more.

School Forum: You're Invited

The second School Forum of the year is tonight! On the agenda for the evening: Safety and Student Shows & Parties

The Forum is open to all parents/guardians and is a great way to get answers right from the source on your questions and concerns. Please join us at 6:00 PM, here at the school. Merci!

"Discovery Days" at FASRI

Thursday and Friday are Discovery Days at FASRI! This is a chance for the students to work with different teachers on creative multimedia projects and activities. We look forward to sharing their creations with you soon!

Re-enrollment & financial aid
  • For current students: re-enrollment forms are now in the mail and must be returned before March 1, 2013.
  • Financial Aid: We are committed to help qualified families afford a FASRI education. Extracurricular announcements

Dear Parents,

  • A second Sports club for the Maternelle grades has been arranged and will begin on Thursday, February 28. I will be working with Sebastien, the other sports teacher, to ensure that the two classes are in harmony.
  • There is still one spot open for Piano on Tuesdays and two spots for piano on Wednesdays with Tom K.
  • There is also room in guitar on Thursdays and Fridays. Please let me know if you are interested.
  • Mardi Gras festivities for the Elementaire grades (CP - CM2) will kick off the month of Francophonie Events on Friday, March 1. Here's our flyer, with all of the information you'll need. A list will be made available at the front desk to sign up for food preparation, beverages, event stalls, etc. You can also contact me directly to sign up. We look forward to seeing you there!
  • A calendar will be available online next week with all the Francophonie events we are organizing and a link to events in the New England area. We hope you will join us to celebrate the language and culture that brings us together at FASRI.
  • The Summer Camp brochure is almost ready; keep an eye out on the website in the coming week for a great offering of summer fun for all!
I hope this finds you well after the storm and the news that affected our community. I wish you solace and respite next week.

Sharing French home help among FASRI families
We are looking for a family to share hours for a housekeeper/nanny. She has worked in Providence for seven years. Before coming to Providence, she nannied for French families in Paris and comes highly recommended. She does wonderful "home" work and is an excellent cook. The bonus is that she is fluent in French. If you would like to work out an arrangement to share her time with us, please contact Martha Pecceu (mnpecceu@yahoo.com).
