THE MESSENGER
Mental Health America of South Carolina

Save the Date  Mental Health America of South Carolina, SC Department of Mental Health , SC SHARE, and NAMI Mid-Carolina NAMIWALKS are joining together April 3,4,5 to celebrate

"Shared History, Shared Hope"

The events of this three-day weekend are centered around the Bull Street campus of the former SC State Hospital. This weekend will be the very last opportunity for the SC Department of Mental Health and the general public to have access to the grounds of the Bull Street campus before the demolition begins in preparation for the new use of the property led by the City of Columbia.

In light of this, a special Candle Light Vigil will be held on the Bull Street Campus on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 6:30 pm. All are invited to share in the Candle Light Vigil by sponsoring a luminary to be placed on the grounds that evening in memory of a loved one who has passed who may have suffered from a mental illness, a mental health professional dedicated to serving those with mental illness, and friends, family members and other advocates for those with mental illness.

Mental Health America of South Carolina will be hosting an invitation only 60th Birthday celebration on Friday evening honoring "Champions in Mental Health"

On Saturday morning at 9:00 am, registration will begin for the annual NAMI Mid-Carolina NAMIWALKS. This year, NAMIWALKS will begin at the gates to the former SC State Hospital on Bull Street and the route will end at the SC State House.

These events are planned to provide our advocates, volunteers, and consumers with the opportunity to remember the past and to look to the future of mental health in the state of South Carolina.

For information on reserving a memorial luminary for the Candle Light Vigil, contact Candace Dennis at 803-779-5363 or [email protected].

The register as an individual or team member for NAMIWALKS, go to www.namimidcarolina.org or call Mandy Medlock at the NAMI Mid-Carolina office at 803-206-2916 for registration and sponsorship information.

We hope that you will join us for this special weekend!
