February 24- March 2, 2013 is National Eating Disorders Week
Once believed to be a disorder only affecting teenagers, we now know the serious consequences of eating disorders in adults. Of the estimated 5 to 10 million female Americans who suffer from some form of eating disorder, experts are reporting a rise among adult women. Just like teenagers, middle-aged women are going through many physical and emotional changes. According to one survey, 57 percent of middle-aged women reported being dissatisfied with their bodies-three points higher than the rate for teenage girls.
National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 24 - March 2, 2013) is fast-approaching. About 50% of people struggling with eating disorders meet the criteria for depression.

MHASC volunteers Help the Homeless during the 2013 Point in Time Count for HUD funded agencies
On January 24-27, MHASC volunteers joined volunteers from other agencies serving the homeless in South Carolina in an outreach effort to gather information and numbers of those living in the streets of out cities and rural areas during the HUD 2013 Point in Time Count.
The information gathered during this year's Point in Time Count will help South Carolina's homeless services to better serve and reach this vulnerable population.
According to Lisa Tindal of MHA Aiken County, "As the county coordinator for the 2013 Point in Time Homeless count required by HUD, I was able to partner with all agencies that might encounter someone who is homeless. Data is incomplete at this time; but, based on the information I have received the number has at least tripled since the last count in 2011. This data is critical as it helps each agency as well as our county as a whole respond appropriately to this need. "
