Mental Health America of South Carolina

Mental Health America National Office Announces New Direction for America's Children after Tragedy in Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut.
Mental Health America's President and CEO, Wayne W. Lindstrom, PhD announced renewed mission for mental wellness and services for America's children.

He declared "Mental Health America's  goal is to forge a new public health movement in this country that fully addresses the whole health needs of our people, our communities, our workplaces, and our nation.

Most especially, we seek to create a public health movement that focuses critical resources on the developmental needs of our children, that protects them from the traumatic effects of multiple forms of abuse, that makes families, schools, and communities safe and nurturing learning and living environments for our children, and that provides them with the fundamentals to thrive."

Mental Health America South Carolina and our Affiliates continue to provide advocacy for children and families of South Carolina through programs such as Bridges Clubhouse, Representative Payee programs, educational conferences, an extensive housing program, and the IC HOPE program.

We invite you to call Anita T. Baker at the MHASC office in Columbia, SC 803-779-5363 to scheduled an IC HOPE training today! More information on this important children's mental health awareness program is below!

IC HOPE and the "Don't Duck Mental Health" program is a public awareness and education campaign that dispels the negative perceptions and images associated with mental illness and mental health issues.

Created by the staff of the Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee as a anti-stigma campaign, the IC HOPE  program has been adopted by several MHA state affiliates.

IC HOPE is the Ambassador for Mental Health and Wellness. The friendly duck has a bandage on his head, symbolizing that mental illness is real and treatable and a life preserver around his neck symbolizing that every life is worth saving. This engaging character of IC HOPE evokes positive emotional responses from children and adults alike.

Mental Health America of South Carolina and its local affiliates offer IC HOPE training seminars and materials to South Carolina schools, day care centers, churches, and other groups upon request.

Please contact Anita Baker at the MHASC office at 803-779-5363 or by email to [email protected] for more information.
