There are a lot of school ranking indices available to parents today to make decisions about their schools. Each offers something different. There is no #1 ranking that is the "end-all' ranking in America.

One such ranking website, "SchoolDigger.com", was launched in 2009 to help parents evaluate schools in the United States.   School Digger's goal was to give parents an intuitive way to compare a particular school's performance to other schools in its district, city or state.     SchoolDigger shows test scores, rankings, school and district boundaries, student/teacher ratios, ethnic makeup, and scores of other useful metrics and information for over 120,000 elementary, middle, and high schools in the United States.

According to the latest (2014-2015) SchoolDigger rankings for 1430 Pennsylvania elementary schools, SchoolDigger considers Pickering Valley Elementary School the 8th best elementary school in Pennsylvania.

And the good news continues.  Uwchlan Hills Elementary School is rated #28 in the state, moving up 22 places in just one year.  Brandywine Wallace, Shamona Creek, Springton Manor and West Bradford are listed in the top 100 schools in the Commonwealth.   Our four title 1 schools, Lionville, East Ward, Bradford Heights and Beaver Creek are all in the top 14%, a great feat for these school communities.  Every elementary school in our district moved up in the rankings this year, but the prize goes to Bradford Heights.  Bradford Heights moved up 193 places in the rankings in just one year.

DASD Board Approves Budget with No Tax Increase

On April 13, 2016 the Downingtown Area School District Board of School Directors approved the 2016-2017 proposed School District budget with no tax increase for the next fiscal year. The final budget will be adopted at the June School Board meeting. This will be the fourth year running that a Downingtown budget has been approved with no property tax increase.

The unanimous vote approving the $210.7 million dollar budget shows a 1.6% increase in expenses over last year's budget, which reflects the District's efforts to control costs despite larger increases in areas such as healthcare and special education costs.
