I hope you and your family have an enjoyable Spring Break.   Take some time together and enjoy the warm temperatures that are anticipated for the end of next week.

If you remember back to the winter break, we gave our staff some time to enjoy their families in our "Turn Off and Tune In" weekend.   We are going to do that again and turn off our email server at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016.  We'll turn it back on again at midnight on Sunday.
During that short window when we "Turn Off and Tune In" to our own families, DASD staff will not have access to their DASD email account.

Should you send an email to a DASD staff member during that period, don't worry, it won't get lost, it will just appear in the addressee's mailbox on Monday morning.

We intend to keep our eyes on the sky on Sunday night and hope that the heralded spring snow storm moves on by us. I do not anticipate any closing of schools, but as a reminder, if our schools do need to close, the make up date would be Friday, May 27, 2016.

Thank you for the nice comments about our Dr. Seuss video. Our staff and students really enjoyed Read across America Week.  And if you were wondering...the most selected book in the Dr. Seuss survey I posted in this column two weeks ago was  Green Eggs and Ham.

DHS East junior Victoria Pan has earned national recognition in the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition.  Victoria has been named one of the most talented young artists and writers in the country.   Of the nearly 320,000 works of art and writing that were submitted to the competition, only the top 15 were recognized at the national level.   Victoria will be honored during a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on 6/2/16.  Victoria won two awards: a Gold Medal for "Fingers of Life and Death" Poetry and a Silver Medal for a critical essay titled "Not Your Average Disney Princess".  Former winners of this prestigious award included Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Robert Redford, Lena Dunham and Truman Capote.
