FROM SUPERINTENDENT MUSSOLINE
In an effort to get everyone to hopefully moderate this information overload and to pay attention to their families over the Thanksgiving break, I am asking everyone, every family, every teacher and employee to join me in our first "Turn Off; Tune In...To Your Family" during the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.

Did you know that a recent Pew Research Study stated that 89% of adults indicated used their phones while in social settings with friends.  The article goes on to state, "Across generations, technology overload today is implicated in the assault on empathy. We've gotten so used to being connected all the time that we find ways around conversation-at least from conversation that is open-ended and spontaneous." Especially conversation with our families.

Honoring our Veterans
Lionville Middle School students and staff have long honored our service veterans.   Each year the student's Patriot's Club, under the direction of Susan Mousely, helps organize the school's annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day Assemblies.  This year's event on November 11, 2015 included a parade of veterans through the hallways, posters, speeches and placards designed and colored by students.

Two new faces on DASD school board
On 11/11/15, David Kring was appointed by the Board of Directors to replace Barbara Hurt-Simmons who resigned her seat in October.   Mr. Kring will serve out the remaining two years of Mrs. Hurt-Simmons's term.  On November 3, 2015 voters in Region 1 elected James "Ted" Rauth to the Region 1 School Board position.  Rauth will replace Jackie Fenn who did not run for reelection.   Region 2 Director Carl Croft, Region 5 director Colleen Cranney, Region 7 Director Jane Bertone and Region 9 Director Jaime Mehler were all reelected to another four year term.

Many in our district have joined the "No Shave November" cause that seeks to defeat childhood cancer.  We are holding a fun and "different" staff contest that runs from November 1 through November 30th so you may see some "Grizzly Adams" types in our schools. Staff were invited to put down their razors and contribute what they would have spent on their hair to the St. Jude's Hospital for children.  Click here for more

Uwchlan Hills Sock Initiative
Uwchlan Hills Girl Scout Troop 41291 supported the Retired Senior Volunteer Program's 'Sock It To Us' effort by collecting new socks from students and faculty to help the less fortunate stay warm this winter.

Shamona Creek is on the cutting edge of technology. SC is the only elementary school at this time that uses an iPad and Googledocs for our morning Broadcast. Fifth graders work with an Encore teacher during recess to video the announcements for the next day. Teachers can then click on the link at a convenient time for their students.
