FROM SUPERINTENDENT MUSSOLINE

The School Board/Superintendent team has made a decision to redesign the overall leadership structure of the district's organization.  This change is being instituted in order to provide better supervision and overall organizational efficiency throughout the growing Downingtown Area School District.

By the start for the 2016-17 fiscal year, if not sooner, we are going to create the position of Assistant Superintendent.  This educational professional would essentially act as the District's Chief Operating Officer overseeing the entire K12 administrative program.  The creation of the Assistant Superintendent of Schools, a Commissioned Officer in the Commonwealth, will provide our district with a clear second in command and work closely with the Superintendent and Board on various projects. Professional Development Days
Many people often ask what happens on those days when schools are closed for Professional Development. On Columbus Day last week, students may have had the day off, but our staff was training.  The day was split into an a.m. and a p.m. session. Curriculum leaders led some of the sessions that teachers attended in the morning.  These programs were focused on the continuing development of Cumulative Summative Assessments (CSA's).  Click for more!

October is Fire Prevention Month
Thank you to many members of our local fire companies who stopped by to teach our students about fire safety.  BW enjoyed two fire prevention programs provided by Chief John Edwards and volunteers (including 2 former BW students!) from East Brandywine Fire Department.  Kindergarten students at UH enjoyed a visit by Lionville Fire Company firemen, as part of their celebration of Fire Prevention Week.  They especially enjoyed the big fire truck and the blowing of the siren!

Remember to check your family's fire and smoke detectors for working batteries.
